Question:

AFL Drug Policy a joke?

by  |  earlier

The players are exempt from being drug tested during the 6 week 'party-time' off season. What a joke! This should be scrapped and players should be tested randomly during the full 12 months.

Given the latest Ben Cousins saga, its proven that the new drug policies are NOT working.

  1. I agree. I am totally p issed off Bens charges have been dropped. He is always getting off too lightly i'm sick of it.

  2. Drugs is a difficult area to police, and there will always be loopholes, regardless of policies.

If the Olympic sports organisation have difficulty keeping up with PE drugs, recreational, and other cheating methods, how on earth are the AFL going to keep track of players comings and goings after dark.

Sure it's a joke, however nobody has come up with an airtight solution as yet.

  3. To me this is a free pass for them to take drugs!

It is like saying "ok boys, now is the time to go and party, you can get as smashed and as high as you like for the next six weeks and you are quite within your rights to do so!"

    What about the LAW!

Would anybody in their right mind say to a child of theirs something along these same lines?

These football players are mostly young men in their late teens and early twenty's, the AFL is giving them permission!

OK, so after the six weeks. the majority of guys have got the "partying" out of their systems, sober up and get back on track.

WHAT ABOUT THE GUYS THAT, IN THIS SIX WEEKS HAVE FORMED AN ADDICTION TO THESE DRUGS??

This is what happens! Some people get addicted, some can take it or leave it. Great for the latter, but the former now find themselves in a downward spiral that inevitably ends them up in BIG TROUBLE!

The AFL should be answerable for this in the first place by even saying "off you go guys, do what you like for 6 weeks"

    Bloody Deplorable!!

    Makes me Bloody Angry!!

  4. AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE BOO BOO BOO

  5. i agree what i find even scarier is our kids who look up to them and want to play footy in years to come what is it teaching them its ok have some fun with drugs and nothing will happen

    Its a bloody joke

  6. the whole afl is a joke at the moment

  7. Stopping footballers taking drugs is like stopping teenagers from drinking - it ain't gonna happen. From what I can tell all of the shock over the Johns/Cousins saga is coming from older mums who probably think their teenage kids are angels when they go out. Sorry to break it to you but they aren't and neither are footballers squeaky clean off the field. Everyone is trying to be so politically correct about drugs and pretend it is a minority and there isn't really a culture of drug taking. People need to open their eyes or at least pull their head out of the sand.

  8. We have random drug testing at work, a test costs $25. Cost of testing the entire 44 players on the list=$1100. Test every player on the list once a week=$24200. That is less than Ben Cousins wage for 2 weeks, $3800 less. Pick a player up at the dabble stage and nip the problem in the bud, easy. Why isn't this happening? The players organisation wont let clubs drug test players.
