How does this work, well the lowest two clubs, in the given season go back to their home leagues ie VFL, WAFL, SANFL or other. Then the top 4 clubs from these leagues play off for the two placings into the AFL. ie For aguements sake lets say CArlton and Sydney were the ones to finish last and 2nd last. The top clubs say West Perth, Glenelg, Port Melbourne and North Sydney have their own grand final to determine the newly promoted teams, and lets not get stupid it would be West Perth vs Glenelg and Port Melbourne vs North Sydney. These two clubs who win get

!st draft pick, the club who wins by the most points

Draft consilations

$500,000 for entering the league

Same salary cap as the Sydney swans have

aswell a years support form the AFL sponsor of choice ready to give the club ample opportuntiy into their new position.

Have a think, I h8 seeing clubs finishing on the bottom my team

finished wooden spooners once in 111 years of footy.

  1. think they should chuck in the last 4 teams name in a hat and draw out the picks from there

  2. well no matter how good your idea may seem, it will never happen, or work for that matter

for 1, say Glenelg win through to the AFL at the expense of the Power, Glenelg's facilites are not up to AFL standard and for that fact most of the players wouldnt be either.

for 2, what happens when Collingwood finish in the bottom 2(dont get me wrong, i hate Collingwood just as much as the next sane person)? that means that a club with one of the biggest fan bases and that brings a lot of money to the AFL thru tickets and revenue would be out of the comp, taking all that money with them

Also the AFL wouldnt let it happen cos that would mean losing blockbuster/moneymaker traditional games such as ANZAC day and Queens birthday clash, that just aint gonna happen

i admit something needs to be done, but this answer will not work

  3. Yeah Slash & Romper are correct - good idea in theory but it wouldn't work.

    And in my opinion -

    TANKING IS A MYTH

  4. sounds like a good idea but the clubs coming up could never afford to run a club in the afl for a season.

seriously it would only lead to more trouble, freo vrs port melb, crowd of what 2000.

sounds good but it wouldnt work.

bottom 6 in a raffle for first 1-6 picks.just my thoughts.

  5. meh i don t think my team has ever had th wooden spoon =]

nah dont think thatll work unless they change it cos what about when players form clubs are playing in th WAFL or SANFl. like if a senior Freo or WC player was just getting back after an injury and he was playing in th WAFL for 1 last game b4 getting back into th team. IF his senior team stays inside the top 14 and isnt moved down, what happens if his WAFL team gets into the AFL?? Like does he stay in the old WAFL team that is now in th AFL, or go back to his actualAFL team?? obvoiulsy hed go to th AFL team...but then what is th other club gonna do??? theyd need to get way more players and stuff.

dont think itd work...unless they made major changes

  6. yeah but you have to know that the VFL is a lot stronger than the NSW State League competition.

This would work but you would need two things going for it that isnt quite going to happen anytime soon.

First- Well, more of an idea and not something that must happen....but say if Sydney were to bomb out, then the top placed NSW side would come in, if say.....Essendon 'bombed out' (pun intended) then the leading VFL team should come in..so then each state still has the same amount of teams.

Second is support- I guess your basing this on the English soccer competitions. Well in the VFL and that, there isnt as much support for the local teams.

A Southport (QLD side) vs .....North Melbourne at the Dome would not pull very big numbers.

And quality.......there isnt more teams and we dont want more teams mainly around one reason...no talent for everyone. Not like in English football where they can get the best from any country they want, we only have 21 million in Australia and a small folowing overseas....

like most ideas coming in on here at the moment, try anohter couple of hundred years.

  7. So you are saying if Melbourne were to finish last in AFL and Sandringham were to finish first in VFL, then they would swap? wouldn't make much difference, since Sandy are Melbourne's affiliate club.

  8. I think something has to be done

maybe average out teams possessions over a ten year period

to find out who gets priority picks
