The Chief Executive of the Australian Football League (AFL), Andrew Demetriou, appreciated the approval vote for the upgrading of Adelaide Oval from the South Australian Cricket Association members and termed it a monumental decision with far reaching consequences for South Australia.
“It's a decision, from a historical perspective, that will transform South Australia,” the AFL Chief Executive maintained.
The Adelaide Oval will transform into a 50000-seat stadium after approval from the members of the South Australian Cricket Association. A meeting on Monday night, May 3, decided the matter after the approval of 80 percent of the members. The proposal needed 75 percent votes for its implementation.
Adelaide Oval will host Australian football once again and the South Australian Cricket Association will share the stadium with the two Adelaide-based football clubs of the Australian Football League.
Demetriou, who is pleased with the decision, said that the $535 million invested by the Australian Government will refurbish the venue and turn it into an iconic stadium.
"This is a significant announcement with $535 million provided by the State Government to transform Adelaide Oval into one of the most iconic stadiums in this country,” he said. He further went on to say that the State Government played a big role in supporting the project.
The league boss thanked the project’s key figures and the government members for their dedication to the venture. "On behalf of the AFL, I want to thank the Premier Mike Rann, former Treasurer Kevin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Foley-c57065, Pat Conlon - the Minister for Infrastructure - and all members of the government for their absolute commitment to this project."
