AFL clash jumpers. Do we really need them?

I say no. I think the AFL is so inconsistent on this, and we've done fine without them in the past. Did anyone see Melbourne vs Bulldogs? It's rubbish.

I'm a Cats fan and love the home strip.

  1. I don't mind it, but it's kind of getting out of hand when there's really is no obvious clash. It's OK for the obvious clashes - Pies/Kangas, but the away strip is being worn way too much, when there is really no obvious clash

  2. I think every team should have 2 jumpers. can't have half of them with 2 jumpers..............besides they dont even wear their clash jumpers if they clash anyways

  3. Yeah can see where yr comen from but I dont have a big problem with it, it gives the club more revenue and these days they need their supporters to dig deep.. If you cant get to the games then at least you can buy the shirts!

  4. Im a tigers supporter...a mad tigers supporter...and if u watch richmond vs. wce....u will say yes.

  5. nope i dnt think we do. its just a waste of money.

  6. no

    i say this every year

white shorts is all thats needed for away teams

just like we dont need umpires in every colour under the rainbow

  7. No, we didn't need them for a hundred yrs or so, why is it all of a sudden nobody can recognize who's on there teams nowadays.

  8. definately dont need them.  if you are a fan you should be able to pick out your team when they play.  it is just another club version of the club jumper that can be sold to the fans. thats what it is all about.home and away jumper, clash jumper, pre season jumper what ever no wonder people cant reconize their team because they dont know what they are wearing today.  they should be concertrating on the game ahead and not be asking "DO WE CLASH TODAY?"

  9. I can't see whats wrong with white shorts they have worked for the last 149 yrs why change it unless of course the footballers that play today are too dumb to work out which team to kick to.

  10. Eddie and his Collingwood boys say they have an alternate jumper, ha, ha.

Black with white stripes and white with black stripes is not different.

Some time, like in the finals, a Collingwood player handballs to a North player by mistake, it will not be funny anymore.

For those who say clashes are not necessary--we have been OK for years now, well the game is much faster than it was 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 15 and more years ago.

A split second decision should not be messed up because of a similar jumper.

  11. we do, but not for every team.

some of the away strips are not needed.

    this isnt soccer!

  12. i agree 100%.who ever is responsible for introducing them is just being vain and trying to put their mark on the game.also hands of any victorian clubs when ther'stalk of them going under.the afl cronies are ***..g the tradition of the game because of money,so if they persist with the destruction of what was then lets abolish the afl and return to the vfl...follower of the one true religion,COLLINGWOOD!!!.

  13. I think that we just keep a Home jumper and wear white shorts for an away game and blue or black shorts for a home game.

    P.S GO THE CATS!!!!!!!

  14. well first of all, the afl are gettin alotta money outta doing this, so i dont think they're gonna stop any time soon.

and then there are teams which do look simular, collingwood and geelong, geelong and kangas, kangas and collingwood.... why dont they just get those 3 teams to have clash guernsys when they face each other, and then play with their original when they face other teams?

collingwood will need an actual clash jumper though

on the weekend, collingwood v adelaide was at the MCG, and the crows wore their home guernsy. not only did it look so much better, but there was no clash at all

  15. Yep.  And I agree that the AFL is being pathetic on this one.  Someone needs to stand up to Eddie bloody Maguire and tell him that Collingwood aren't the biggest chook in the coop, and that they need to change to another top when its a Kanga's home game.

If even one guy hand passes to an opposing team because they thought it was someone on his side then it shows that clashing strips detract from the game.

And from a spectators perspective its difficult to sometimes work out what is going on too.  From behind the Eagles and the Tigers were hard to distinguish betweeen.  Most annoying.

BTW there has been some research on which colours are the best to wear for quick/easy recognition.  If I remember correctly science says that white should be the best colour to see, but I think that statistics from soccer reveal that red stripped teams do best.

  16. Yes.

Do you really want your teams mistakenly passing the ball to the opposition?

The eagles vs tigers hd similar strips, from a distantance they looked the same.

I like both the eagles home and away strips.

I love the brisbane melbourne footscap stip!wikid!

  17. When you look at the Collingwood clash jumper, you have to ask "why?!!"

I think that we probably do need clash jumpers when playing teams whose jumpers are similar but they really need to be looked at. I think that the Lions are right on the money now that they are wearing the old Fitzroy guernsey for games in Victoria. I don't see why a change of  shorts isn't enough for most of the clubs. It really depends what the clubs original guernsey is, but the Pies current away strip is totally unacceptable and i dont think that anyone wants to see that grey Demons clash jumper ever again!

  18. When being at the Eagles v Richmond game, i say yes! The yellow + dark blue against the yellow + black really clash it was so hard to tell from the opposite side of the oval, i don't even think they were wearing the clash jumper!

And i didn't see Melbourne vs bulldogs.

    EDIT:

Me 2 Alana, i have both the kinds of eagles jumpers and love them both!

    - come on, don't thumbs down me because i said that -

  19. The only clash jumper is Freo's; So sh*t no-one can look at it.

How about we just get rid of Fremantle all together

  20. Unless you want to be sitting their going, WHY THE h**l DID YOU KICK IT TO THE OPPISITION, when its your own team, then i suppose yes.

  21. No we don't need them at all , its just simply another AFL "money making" farce.    The Melbourne jumper was a disgrace, and what annoys me so many of them are predominantly WHITE, making them look insipid.

  22. Hey Chelsea, keep off the Chardonnay tonight and you will have no trouble picking between the teams.

  23. Yes.

Look at Richmond vs Essendon as an example.

  24. **I too am a Geelong fan and really love our guernsey, however I do think that in some games a clash guernesy is needed, say Collingwood v North Melbourne because the teams can so easily be confused.

Providing the teams only wear these clash jumpers a couple of times (at the most) a season then I don't have a problem with it.**

  25. I'm a traditionalist and no we don't need clash jumpers. It's all just to sell merchandise anyway. However, I do like the Fitzroy jumper on the Brisbane team.

  26. I'd like to say that we don't need them, because I like traditional guernseys, but I think with some of the teams it's necessary, like between Melbourne and Carlton.

  27. Yeah, we do need different suits for home-and-away because too many of the teams have similar colors and that leads to turnovers and players shepherding their own men.

Given that most teams have two main colors, each team to have a dark strip(for home)and a light strip(away)except for the odd team like Sydney who have two light colors - so commonsense would prevail, and when playing Essendon Sydney would always have the white strip and Essendon the black, or against St Kilda Sydney would always have the red and the Saints the black.

Mind you, would be a good idea for the new NSW team to wear something like grey and pink(galahs)and the Gold Coast mob to have gold and purple(crocodiles)to make a pleasant change from so many teams having blue, black and white as major colors.

And why not a team in green and pink?

  28. no the teams should hav their regular jumpers that they play in and it shouldnt get changed around
