Question:

AFROTC - If I don't make a pilot slot, can I try again at some point?

I'm starting ROTC late, and I will be at a disadvantage in many ways. However, my grades are good, I'm physically very fit, and have flight experience. I should be more than capable. If for some reason I don't get a slot, perhaps because I came in late and missed field training, can I try again? I have what it takes, and I have the will to succeed. I just need a shot.

  1. Sure sure, they'll let you try again after you dig a new latrine, and fuel up all those B52's over there (OH and make sure you check the oil and wash all the windshields this time!) and get on over to the mess hall and peel 10 sacks of potatos, sweep out all the barraks and pick up butts, dust the tops of the lockers, then paint the control tower and stand guard ALL night outside in 10 below weather, and do all that for like 10 years straight and then we'll talk about your pilot training, bucko...

  2. Yes you can try again, keep that attitude and you'll probably do OK.

  3. You might get more (and better) responses if you posted this question in the Military section (under Politics & Government in the main Answers menu).  There are a lot of USAF folks that post there.

In NROTC, I would think that you would have as good a chance as anyone else getting their commission at the same time.  At least in the Navy, grades are key so get them as high as you can

Why would a commmissioned officer in the US Air Force be asked to dig a new latrine, and fuel up all those B52's over there and get on over to the mess hall and peel 10 sacks of potatos, sweep out all the barraks and pick up butts, dust the tops of the lockers, then paint the control tower and stand guard ALL night outside in 10 below weather?  All of these sound like jobs for enlisted personnel, not commissioned officers.
