Im going to a college that hosts AFROTC, (siuc) im wondering if it would be possible to major in aviaiton flight, and do AFROTC to become a pilot in the Airforce. I should have around 250 hours after I graduate, is that too much hours to be considered as a pilot in the AF? thanks

  1. There are a few variables at play.  Are you planning to apply for an AFROTC schollarship?  If so, Flight is not a major that they will typically pay for.  If you are going on your dime entirely, sure that's an acceptable major as long as you get a Bachelor's degree at the end of it.  As for getting to be an AF pilot, you would need to compete for a rated slot in AFROTC by your Junior year.  Having flight hours has precious little to do with that process at all.  You could be a 10,000 hour airline pilot and get accepted into pilot training if you meet all the requirements (physical, get a slot, graduate on time, etc).  So, if you can get a flight major and do AFROTC, it would be good since if you don't get a rated slot, you have your private license to fall back on.  Cheers and good luck!
