  1. You divide by 3?

  2. consecutive means like one after the other, so your looking for 3 numbers in a sequence like 1,2,3 that add up to 159.

    To do this, divide 159 by the amount of numbers you need which is 3, you will find the answer to this is 53, you now choose the numbers below and above that, 52,53,54.

    Hope this helps.

  3. It says 3 odd consecutive nos so they have to be in a row like say 3,5 & 7. what i mean tosay is that it cannot be any random numbers.

    so,

    let the odd numbers be x, x+2 & x+4

    x+x+2+x+4 = 159

             3x+6 = 159

                 3x = 159-6

                 3x = 153

                   x = 51

        therefore, the numbers are :

         x = 51

    x+2 = 53

    x+4 = 55

  4. Make an equation out of it.

    x ---> This will be your first number

    x + 2 ---> This will be your second number (because, well, you add 2 to get the next odd number. 3,5,7 --> Those are consecutive odd numbers and you need to add 2 to get to the next consecutive number. Adding 1 would result to a positive number *3+1 =4* Adding 3 would get you an even number *3+3=6* Adding 4 would get you an odd number, but it's not consecutive, anymore. (3+4=7. You skipped 5.)) Anyway, does that make sense?

    Therefore the third number should be x + 2 + 2 or x + 4.

    As the three numbers add up to 159,

            x          +           x + 2          +        x + 4         = 159

    first number   +   second number   +    third number   = 159, yes? :D

    Solving the equation then gives you

    3x + 6 = 159

    3x = 153

    x = 51

    As we set x to be our first number, 51 is our first number. The second is 53 (x+2 or 51+2) and the third is 55 (x+4 or 51+4).

  5. you make a Let statement-

    Let X= first consecutive odd number

    let X-2=2nd consecutive odd number

    let x+2=3rd consecutive odd number

    3 consecutive odd numbers

    however, you do not know what they are

    therefore, you call them X

    x+x+x=159

    then you add the x's together because they are "like terms"

    3x=159

    x=53

    now follow the let statement

    x=53

    x-2=51

    x+2=55

    therefore, your numbers are 51,53,55

    GOOD LUCK! =]

  6. dividing 159 by 3 gives you 53. This means that 52, 53 and 54 are yuour numbers

  7. for example the first number is n, then the second number will be n+2, and the last number will be n+4

    n+n+2+n+4=159

    3n+6=159

    3n=153

    n=51

    so, the first number will be 51

    the second number = 51+2= 53

    the third number =51+4 = 55

  8. ok so you have 3 numbers

    A, B& C

    since they are odd consecutive then this means they are right next to each other on the odd number list like this

    1 3 5 7 9 11 13 ...so if your first number is A then your next number will have to be whatever A is +2 because if you add 1 then it will be an even number you want odd so you add 2. so b=a+2 and some thing with C but C is A+4 cus its 2 odd numbers after the first which was A so C=A+4.k so u got

    A and

    B=A+2

    C=A+4

    k keep this in mind while we move on...

    k so A+B+C= 159 cus your 3 numbers add up to 159 right

    k now lets take that equation A+B+C= 159

    and substitute what we just learned...

    A is A and

    B=A+2

    C=A+4

    A stays, B is sub. for (A+2) and C is subed for (A+4)=159

    so now we have

    A+(A+2)+(A+4)=159

    so lets collect like terms and solve for A

    3A+6=159

    subtract 6 to both sides

    3A=153

    divide by 3

    A=51

    great now you got A

    now remember this

    A=A and

    B=A+2

    C=A+4

    ok well plug in your answer for A (which is 51) to that

    so A is 51 thats your first number

    B=51+2

    b=53, thats your second number

    and

    C=51+4

    C=55, thats your third number

    notice they are all odd, now

    A+B+C=159

    51+53+55+159

    159=159

    Yes it works out!

    and there you have it
