  1. well I hate to tell you, but we had 8 hamster babies. you don't have to do anything let your hamster do it all

  2. Google "hamster giving birth."

  3. simple... dont touch for a good 2-3 weeks... do as little as possible inside the cage as well. as for the mom attacking the babies... well u cant nurse a baby hammy so they'll die either way, just leave the room if she does. might sound cruel but its true. all hamsters on average have 4-8 babies, however there are the extreme ones, i have had 2 litters of 8 and a litter of 14 from syrian hammys. above that mom will do what it takes.

  4. Dont worry small animals are really good at giving birth un-helped, depending on the breed of hampster it should be a medium litter, maybe 4 or 5, it really depends. (im sure you will already know by the time i answer this though) If you dont want them then you can sell them to local pet stores usually (not big chain stores they might not take them) Good Luck new grammy!

  5. Considering that she has already started giving birth, just do the following -

If the male is also in the same cage, try to coax him and bring him out and keep him separately, however do this very cautiously without making any noise becoz if mommy gets disturbed, she is gonna kill the little ones. The reason you need to separate them is that they can mate within an hour of the female giving birth and you do not want more litters after another 18 days.

Try to slowly remove the cage (without any agitation to the mommy) to a peaceful area as any sounds and noises can stress the mother. If this is not possible, then leave the cage where it is but minimise any disturbances for the next two weeks.

Remove the exercise wheel from the cage since it might cause death to the little ones if the mommy decided to exercise on it with her little ones behind her.

DO NOT take a look or try to touch the babies. When you touch them, their scent changes and mommy will kill them.

Keep putting lots of food in the cage, again without disturbing them.

Also replenish the water bottle daily with fresh drinking water.

Supplement her normal food with small pieces of chopped veggies like carrots and lots of protein in the form of chopped hard boiled eggs or bits of cheese.

You can also give her baby formula or skimmed milk from the bottle feeder.

Put a few drops of vitamin tonic (available at all pet shops) in the drinking water that you give her.

Do not clean the cage for two weeks.

As long as you supplement her with lots of food and do not disturb her, she will take care of her young ones properly. Remember the KEY is to make her comfortable in her baby caring schedule since any stress would cause her to eat her babies.

Separate the babies from the mother and put the males and females separately in cages after three weeks since if you mix them together, they are capable of mating so young too.

  6. why do you need help? you're not the one giving birth. she knows what to do, just leave her alone. don't touch the babies and don't clean the tank. she might eat them no matter what you do, but it happens. email me h.rodway@yahoo.com if you have anymore questions

  7. first off, deep breath. leave mom and the babies alone and google hamster pregnancy and birth and you'll get a bunch of info on care and what Not to do. good luck with the little ones

i'll also assume you got her recently, unless you have a male as well?

  8. Well, hamsters can have LOTS of babies. You should expect about 1-13. It all depends on what kind of hamster you have.

Just calm down. Separate the mother from it's babies if she tries to kill them. Hamsters are known to kill their babies. Be careful..you'll have a lot of babies on your hands.

If you need any help just ask!

    ~Good luck!

  9. Hamsters can have  anywhere from 1 to 15 babies.

Just keep the lights dim, noise to an absolute minimum, and observe from afar. Do not touch or bother her whatsoever. Some hamster will eat their babies if they smell human on them [touching them] or if they are stressed, and ironically if they feel they are in danger. Let her do what she has to checking every 10min to see if there is a problem. She should have each baby within a hour to 2 hour time frame [baby/hour/baby/ect.] if after 2 hours no babies come out then she's done and leave her alone.

If after 5 weeks and you do not have a home for all the hamsters make bin cages so they can all have their space and not cost you a fortune until you find them hames so that they won't breed or kill each other. If they are dwarfs you can house them together but once again a bin cage is cheap and more affordable to give them the space they need. Just google how to make one and many tutorials will pop up if you don't already know how.

  10. Dont get near her or even look at her ! she will kill the babies!!

I mad that mistake with mine and she just grabbed them and started smashing them on the aquarium glass then she ate the dead babies...it was horrific!
