When applying for AHCCCS do you have to be a certain age?

If you already have insurance but are not covered in an area you would like coverage in, can you still apply?

  1. You have to be 18, or an emancipated minor, or your guardian has to apply on your behalf.

The only time you can pick up the AHCCCS as a secondary plan, is for pregnancy, or if you're a disabled child.

  2. AHCCCS has many different programs and each of these have their own eligibility requirements. Here is a link that lists what the income and age requirements are:

    http://www.ahcccs.state.az.us/Publicatio...

There is also info on who you need to contact to apply.

  3. There are no age requirements. There are income and asset requirements which you can find on their website: http://www.ahcccs.state.az.us/site/

You can have other insurance. The other insurance will be primary and AHCCCS will be secondary and pick up what the primary doesn't cover.

  4. You can be any age to apply for AHCCCS, however if you are under 65 or over 18, there are income requirements that a lot of people don't meet because they earn just that too much money.  You certainly can apply, as to whether you will qualify is another question, however it does not cost you anything and the worst that can happen is you will be turned down and will be where you are now.  If you are in need of prenatal care, the income requirements are not so stringent so working mothers can qualify for prenatal care.
