In the pattern it told me how to divide for the heel and I could do that, I knitted all that part. But I was left with 20 sts and then the next section 'Turn heel' says;

ROw 1 - sl 1, k 10, ssk, k1, turn.

How can I do that because it involves 14 sts and I have 20? i was supposed to have 20, fyi, I didn't accidentally add them. I am positive.

And how do I turn it? what does that mean?

Thank you!!

  1. This is called short rows and is used to shape the heels. Just follow the pattern, and eventually you will use of the heel stitches.

  2. Turning means exactly that.  Flip it around.  You're looking at the right side, turn it and you're looking at the wrong side (which is the inside).  Needles exchange hands.

    Follow the pattern to a T, do as it says.  You turn the work after the K1.  You won't use all of the stitches right away but will get to them eventually.  Each time you turn it, you'll use an extra stitch you hadn't used before until they're all used up.  That's what makes this http://www.knittersreview.com/images/soc... part.  See in the photo the work comes out like a U?  That's the part you're working on.
