Question:

AHHH! How do you keep termites from swarming in your house?

I rent an apartment, just had an inspection for termites, and the inspector said... "I am surprised they haven't swarmed in your house!"

I knew I had termites, I informed my landlord. Now I have to wait for the inspector to come up with a quote and my landlord to approve it. Is there anything I can fill the known termite holes with in the mean time to MAYBE prevent swarming in the house?

The inspector suggest caulking but then said they could just chew right through. AHHH I hate bugs!

  1. My understanding is that if termites are exposed to sunlight they will die.  So, you might end up with some dead termites that you will have to clean up, but shouldn't get a flying swarm of termites for very long.

  2. You should be able to get a pest control tech to spot treat in those areas.  Well the guy I work for does just without guarantee, but waiting a week or two won't make a difference with the treatment.  They won't eat up the whole house or wall in a week or two.  Most people do stress over it but I learned it doesn't make a big difference.  Good luck.  Oh, and termites normally swarm once a year.  I think it begins in about April or whenever it starts getting warmer where you are living.  The swarm season last anywhere from one to three months on average.
