  1. msn is waay better. and no you cant add others from other im

  2. Yes, Trillian lets you add anyone no matter what their address.  However, MSN has been allowing that for a long time, as long as the user has a .NET password, which they can set up on any email address they own and may have already done so - try adding them and see what happens.  If you can add them, they should be able to use MSN with you.

If you have Windows XP, you can use Windows Live Messenger, which allows Yahoo addresses as well as Hotmail and MSN related addresses.

More important than which you choose though, is how you set it up.

I imagine others have these features that MSN/Live Messenger has, which I would suggest you use:

--Ability to limit people who can contact you to those who you choose to add.

--Chat logging - if someone started harassing you, you will already have evidence that you can show someone, such as your parents.

Also, the usual stuff to keep you safe; don't use webcam with people you don't know or share pictures of questionable value, don't offer to meet someone you don't know well in person unless you meet in a public place with them knowing you will be coming with a large group or your parents, if you start feeling uncomfortable about where the conversation has gone tell your parents (and show them the chat logs since you first started talking to this person).

My children talk on MSN and it's a great way to keep in contact with family who live a long way off and friends made during holiday trips, as well as just quickly sort things out with friends.  Group chat can be great for sorting out the details for an upcoming event and who needs lifts, whose parents are taking people, etc.

  3. I use them both they work awsome!!

  4. It is called trillian...

Trillian™ is a fully featured, stand-alone, skinnable chat client that supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and IRC. It provides capabilities not possible with original network clients, while supporting standard features such as audio chat, file transfers, group chats, chat rooms, buddy icons, multiple simultaneous connections to the same network, server-side contact importing, typing notification, direct connection (AIM), proxy support, encrypted messaging (AIM/ICQ), SMS support, and privacy settings.

  5. AIM is better for many reasons 1.) it has been around longer, so it's more credible. 2.) They can encrypt your messaging so that people don't send you bad stuff or so you don't have people breaking in to your stuff. 3.) more people have AIM accounts so you will have even more people to talk to. the chances are higher that people you know will have one. 4.) there are many ways in which you can access your AIM account without having the actual application.  I hope these reasons have helped you.  Good luck in your choice.

  6. Go aim.  More people have AIM than MSN.  It kind of depends though where you live.  I think that more Americans have AIM, but more Canadians have MSN.
