AJ Auxerre vs AC Milan: Preview
AC Milan has a crucial Champions League game on Tuesday night against AJ Auxerre away from home. Milan has been in splendid form of late, winning four out of their last five matches and drawing one against Real Madrid. Milan was heading for a famous win
but Pedro Leon’s 92nd minute strike ended the match with a score line of 2-2. The Madrid result means that Milan cannot afford any stutters in their remaining group matches. Auxerre is also undefeated in their last five matches which include a 2-1
win against Ajax in the Champions League.
Milan has firmly placed themselves at the top of the Serie A table with a 1-0 win against Fiorentina over the weekend. Rosonerri’s maintain a 3 point lead from second placed Lazio and 9 points clear of arch rivals Inter Milan. Massimiliano Allegri’s Milan
is not a young side but it is filled with masterful players performing magnificently of late. Ronaldinho has been in fabulous form and Robinho has looked threatening in every appearance he has made for Milan. The pair has been in a formidable form for the
Milan Midfield as their deadly duo is superior enough to break through any defense in the world. Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored the only goal to ensure victory against Fiorentina on Saturday, has been in great goal scoring form as well and has
proved to be a real signing for Milan after his departure from Barcelona. Allegri does however have injury worries to deal with ahead of the game. Filippo Inzaghi and Alexandre Pato are both injured and their participation in the match is doubtful.
Like Milan, Auxerre has also had a good run winning three of their last 5 matches in all competitions. They are placed 9th in France Ligue 1 and will have the home advantage over the reigning Serie A leaders. Auxerre won their first group stage
match against Ajax and kept their hopes of qualifying alive. Auxerre manager Jean Fernandez will be without Jean Pascal Mignot and Dennis Oliech who are suspended. Talking to French media on Sunday Fernandez said, "AC Milan are impressive
and are currently leading the Serie A standings. It will be a tough match for us.”
Milan supporters will be hoping Real Madrid will do them a favor by beating Ajax or at least drawing the match to make life easier for the Rosonerris to go through the next round. Jose Mourinho will in all probability rest his key players against Ajax to
save them for the much awaited and talked about El Clasico on the 29th of November. Milan’s fate in the Champions League is still in their own hands as a win in their upcoming fixture against Auxerre will mean that Allegri’s men will need only a
point from their last group match against Ajax at the San-Siro to qualify for the round of sixteen. A defeat for Auxerre will mean their elimination from the group stages.
In their first meeting at the San-Siro in this year’s Champions League, Milan cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory. Ibrahimovic scored both goals in the game played on the 15th of October. Allegri’s side will have a much more torrid time at Stade
de l'Abbé Deschamps but based on Milan’s recent form, they are expected to win the match.
