AL Fans...?

Question

I know a lot about a lot of players in the AL, but Casey Kotchman is not one of them. What kind of player is he? I'm an Atlanta fan, and I know that we weren't gonna be able to keep Tex, but it seems like we should've gotten more than just a relief pitcher and Kotchman. How good is Kotchman? We have him through 2011 at a cheap price, and they anticipate him being our 1B for a long time. How good is he? Tex was the best defensive 1B I have ever seen, and offensively, was only second to Albert Pujols. So, I think we should've got another big name player, personally. I've only seen the Braves get the short end of the stick in a trade once: David Justice deal...although he had an attitude, so I'm happy we got rid of him. How is Kotchman though? I really haven't seen him play very much.

yea i said the same thing to when i heard about the trade "thats all the angels gave em?" compared to what you guys gave texas you lost alot in the past year cause of tex.

he's a heck of a player! i'm an angel fan and he's great defensively (hardly any errors.. about 2 so far this year)

offensively he's been hot.. and he's real patient at the plate.. i think second in the league with least strikeouts

trust me you haven't got the short end of the stick this time

he's a quiet professional guy who gets timely/clutch hits.

he was one of my fav angels.. and he'll be missed.. i actually wanted to keep him instead of re-signing tex for LOTs of $$

looks like i'll be checking out braves games more often :)

As an Angels fan:

Kotchman is a great young player, and will only get better.....

I actually would rather have kept him instead of Texiera, considering that his agent is Scott Boras the Angels are gonna have to shell out 250 million over 10 years to re-sign him....

in 5-6 years Kotchman will be just as good if not better.....

Prepare to be diappointed , barring a miricle, Kotchman is a very average player, is Atlanta conceded their division or something??? WHy trade Tex??

Being an A's fan, i know of Casey Kotchman pretty well.  This guy always seem to be clutch.  Runner at 3rd and less than two outs, he always seem to get that runner home.  He has good patience at the plate and can hit .300.  I think at 1B, Kotchman will be a great replacement.  I know Teixeira is a fantastic first baseman, but Kotchman is a future gold glover.  Be happy that you guys got Kotchman long term and for cheap.  Texiera in my opinion was going to walk next season anyways.

hes a mediocre player not great contact, terrible power for a 1b man and pretty fast for a 1b man.

Very Young Talented Player.

He's 25 years of age meaning he still needs a little seasoning.

Very Solid First Baseman.

He can probably give you 15-20 Dingers, 100 RBI per year.

Hits for an .280-.300 average a year. Very Patient. Does not chase the bad ball. He does not Strikeout or Walk much.

Though committed to driving in runs.

Very Above Average Fielder. Has committed 2 errors so far.

He is definitely a down grade from Teix, but he is still young and you never know he can blossom into a great player.

He's good, is currently on a tear (put a coffin nail in Boston last night) and has potential to grow into something big.
