  1. I belive that it is linked.

  2. Seeing how desperate the Bushes are to go in there, I think it could have been man-made.

Don't you wish that they were this desperate to quickly rescue drowning, starving, and injured Americans in New Orleans?

  3. No way, he said we would get more hurricanes in the U.S. And it's been almost 4 years now since the last one...

  4. He's right. Nearly the entire scientific community (except those who work for oil companies) agree that increasing storm intensity is due to global warming.....which indeed is due to human beings and our effect on the environment.

  5. It's more complicated than that.

    Storms occur naturally, of course.

But heat is the fuel of storms.  Adding more heat will cause more and stronger storms.

Attributing any one storm to global warming is dubious.  Saying global warming will cause more problems with storms is scientific fact.

  6. Tropical cyclones are fueled by warm oceans, so scientifically it is definitely a possible explanation. But like others have been saying, it can never be proven or disproven for sure.

My grouse is that he is explaining this thing like it's being said for the first time. He's way behind the curve on this one, yet he insists he must be heard.

ALSO be careful who you classify as an expert, since so called experts may very well have their heads buried in big oil.

  7. If Al Gore really cared about the people in Myanmar, he would have at least taken the time to blame the right people for all the deaths there.  The government of Myanmar has caused more deaths than the weather by far.

Gore is in such a hurry to blame America first for every tragedy that he forgets that any other people might be culpable.  To my knowledge, he has not said a word about the brutal, vicious dictatorship that has historically and continues to abuse its own citizens.  The aftermath of this cyclone is just one example.

  8. al gore is speaking bull c**p

    don't listen to him

  9. Global warming is the result of Gore putting off too many btu's.

  10. Well, Al Gore is a politician.  He is good at create "sensationalism".

He does have one good point.  As the water temperature rises,  the intensity of the cyclone/hurricane/typhoon rises as well.  That is true.  Because those tropical winds draw their energy from the hot tropical waters.

  11. I see nothing untrue about what he said. GW theory has long predicted these things would get worse and more frequent. Al Gore didn't invent the idea.

  12. usual scare tactics from a proven liar. remember he did invent the internet and flies around in a personal jet, rides in convoys with his SUV's, and has a 10000 sq foot home.  i dont believe a word he says.... EVER!

  13. Large storms are partly because there is a lot of water vapour over the oceans, and partly because there are not enough small storms forming to draw off that volume of water vapour.

Well, why do we see fewer small storms and larger volumes of water vapour over the oceans?

It is not just that we are getting more evaporation from the oceans, even though that is true. But with only a slight temperature increase we see far less cloud formation with the same level of water vapor in the atmosphere.

We get clouds dissipating and dispersing as temperature rises.

Now this tells us why we do not get so many small storms. But it also predicts that by the time we get a storm, there will be far more water vapor in the air. With that larger amount of  water vapor we can predict that condensation will release far more heat, and with that heat we get more powerful up-currents of air, more powerful winds that bring in  more water vapor from much further afield.

At lower temperatures, more water vapor over the oceans would produce earlier cloud formation, earlier precipitation, and so smaller storms forming to draw off the water vapor.

But warmer temperatures occur somewhat randomly in time, not just during a period of global warming. Global warming is predictive only that we will see more of our storms in this category, fewer small storms.

  14. AL Gore is an idiot. He's using the word "global warming" just like Bin Laden saying "Jihad".

Hold the phone... Yes! I believe in global warming and I believe its happening right now but linking the tragedy to global warming without excellent evidence is pure ignorance.

Oh cool! Snow in Iraq! = Global Warming

Rains during summer time = global warming

My icecream melted = global warming

    I farted = global warming

If there's some solid scientific evidence that global warming is the criminal in the tragedy in Myanmar. Then I believe him.

  15. Since Al Gore has no training in meteorology and has admitted to lying about the effects of global warming in his movie, why should we believe this claim?

  16. Of course he is right. Gore did not say this, but underwater mudslides can also affect water currents, and air currents as well. Mudslides and glacial flooding are occurring with frequency, especially as glaciers melt. For example, if one looks at an earth-wide picture on Google Maps and scrolls down to Antarctica, one will see a huge mudslide on the top edge, directly under Myanmar. Zoom in and the mudslide is extremely obvious. We don't think that global warming can impact undersea earth movement, but it can. Earth movement, water currents, air currents . . . everything.

By the way, Gore knows this is a horrible tragedy! Why else has he been warning people about global warming for 30 years? I have his book from 1992: Earth in the Balance. He has been warning people since the 70s. This is why. He is not trying to cash in on a tragedy; he's trying to stop them. He spoke out for 30 years while it was unpopular, and now that it's a global movement, he's not going to stop.
