Hii .. I am trying out for 8th grade volley ball and I am soo nervous. We have to run a timed mile and you guessed it ...be really good at vball.

Well what advise do you have for me?

Anything would be good. From what to eat before tryouts to whatever else you got that would help.

Thanks!

By the way tryouts are on the 4th 5th and 6th from 6-7:30 pm ... =]

  1. Don't worry so much about the mile.

Coaches will not cut you just because you couldn't run the mile in like 10 minutes or less.

They just want to see if you will keep running until you drop and that you won't give up. So don't stress if you are the last one crossing the finish line, as long as you don't walk half of it, you will be good.

Eat a light meal, that has carbohydrates. And bring lots of water to tryouts. Always have a good attitude and remember to be a leader on the court. Also, be really loud and call for the balls. Never ever ever let a ball drop down in front of you, you will most likely be cut for doing this.

Most importantly, always stay positive and if you mess up or make a mistake, get over it. Don't let it get to you.

    Good luck.

  2. Give it your best effort. Try your absolute hardest at everything. Go for every ball. Call the ball. If you call it, it's yours. Stay low when passing. Be loud! Here are some links, good luck!

  3. im trying out for 8th grade tryouts too. i played on the school team for 2 years. what i did was eat fruit and nuts before. the biggest thing about tryouts is to hustle. most coaches look for hustle. my teams hustle gave us the district champs. Good luck. i hope that you make it.

  4. um......eat things with protein, some carbs, and things that will keep you full. just hustle the whole time, dont slack off. go for every single ball. if there's a ball in your area, call it, and go for it. if you call it its yours no matter what, even if that girl beside you makes a run for the same ball. stay low when you pass, square up to where youre passing. stay on your toes, shuffle to move. good luck! btw im going into 9th grade, ive played since 7th

  5. Randy is right.. eat lots of fruit a couple hours before practice and no breads cause it will just stay in your stomach. drink lots of water too. and stretch alot. wear a bright color like pink or yellow and you'll be noticed more. and just concentrate on doing your best! good luck casey!=))

  6. Good Luck first off!

second, like everyone is saying, eat healthy. Fruits and Carbs are best

    - wear a brightly colored shirt, it gets you noticed!

    - HUSTLE. one of the most important things you can do

    - try your best

    - work hard even when it looks like others aren't

    - Get there early, 5-15 minutes, and be ready

(ps, my fist day of try-outs for the high school team were today too)

  7. Oh man.

I remember my timed mile for volleyball... sucked so much because I have no endurance whatsoever.

But guess what, it doesn't really matter to the coach if you make it at exactly at the time he/she gave you. We all know volleyball is not an endurance sport - the timed mile is to see if you can kick it into overtime and push yourself when the time comes AND if you have the determination to be on and play for the team.

As for being good in volleyball, that just comes from experience and your willingness to improve. I sucked my first year, but my willingness to improve kept me on the team - I'm now an opposite hitter and setter. Just show your coach you want it and that there is room for improvement, and they will consider you.

Just eat healthy and stay healthy. Lots of sleep. Eat something energy packed but light, fruits are a good choice. Rest your legs as much - there is going to be a lot of squatting, jumping, and sprinting.

All in all, although very cliché, just play your best and that should get you through it

  8. Eat fruit, like a banana. Listen to some pump up, fast beat music. & just be confident.
