  1. Looks like someone has found the caps lock key.

Both the AMA and the British Supers are great racing. They both blow the socks of that waste of time WSB "events".

Been British, I do perfer to watch my home championship, but the AMA is a very very close second.

I think Im not the only one to hope that one day, The Transatlantic Championship is one day started back up.

If that ever happened, you would have to fancy Neil Hodgson to be the best rider out there, but which side would he ride for??

  2. There's nothing in it. They're both ultra competitive, factory supported races, and any number of riders in both, would be capable of running at the front in either series. (Although, at the moment it seems you need to be on a Yoshi Suzuki to win in AMA!)

Wiggysans Idea of resurrecting the the Transatlantic Trophy is an awesome idea. ( I was privileged to go to a meeting at Snetterton back in 83) but I'm not sure if it could be fitted into the busy schedules of BSB and AMA today...............Still lets start a campaign. Then we'll see who the real boys are!

  3. You asked which is more competitive and I would have to say that is not really possible to answer unless you can define exactly what you mean by competitive.

They both run fields with factory backed and private runners, at a different number and style of tracks around the respective nations, they have a mixture of new talent and veteran riders. I would have to thus say that both is as competitive as the other.

I think that the general biking public in Britain will take it a lot more seriously than the American but sport bikes are by far and way the most popular in the UK, whereas this is not the case in the USofA. I think that the US series riders are a lot more content to stay where they are and kind of be a big fish in a smallish pond, whereas the Brit based riders really use it as a show case for themselves to try and get to bigger and better things. In saying that though the US series (Superbike, Super Sports etc) has given us the likes of Nicky Hayden,  Colin Edwards and Kurtis Roberts in the current generation plus Doug Chandler, Scott Russell, Eddie Lawson, Kevin Schwantz, Freddie Spencer from not all that long ago. The UK has provided James Toseland and Neil Hodgson recently and quite fankly Neil has had his day in the sun.

So in summary I say that they are both as competitive and really how could anyone objectively say otherwise?

Edit @ Wiggysan - The transatlantic would be brilliant again but I am sorry I can't agree that Neil would be the best rider out there. I like the guy and think he is a great rider but his time has been and gone. He made some bad choices recently, I feel. In the USA he was not exactly setting the heather on fire and I reckon that the likes of Jonathan Rea, Leon Haslam, Ben Spies & Jake Zemke would run rings around him now.

  4. both are exciting but to me as long as it is a good race im good

  5. PROFESSIONAL RACING PUTS YOU UP AGAINST THE SPONSORED RIDERS ,WHO CAN AFFORD BETTER OR LATER MACHINERY,SUPERBYKES  IS A MANUFACTURES TEST BED.AMA IS JUST AS COMPETTATIVE AND OFTEN MORE ENTERTAINING TO WATCH,I USED TO RACE SIDECAR OUTFITS,AND ALWAYS PREFERED WATCHING THE AMA LADS.
