Question:

AMD Dual or Quad Core?

I plan on heavy gaming but I don't know which to go with.

I was looking at this:

Are there any other suggestions? AMD CPU's only please.

  1. Dual core, anything over that the performance goes down a lot

    86% gain with 2nd core, 35 with 3rd and 14 or so with fourth.  anything over 4 and it kills it because it uses overhead jumping between processors.


  2. definately QUAD!! at the moment, most programs dont utilize all four cores, but more and more programs are, so soon it will be a big benefit to have a quad core cpu. i would recomend an intel q6600, they perform well and are farely cheap. they run at 2.4ghz, but can easily be overclocked to 3ghz (stable, if u have good cooling).

  3. Hi I have used AMD for years they are great CPUs. This CPU is 140W so is quite power hungry/hot and not all boards can handle the load. My favourite CPU is the 89W AMD 64x2 6000. 3.1 gig and low power usage, means it can be run on more boards, so you have more choice of features. Also alot less heat in the case.
