Does this mean this processor has dual cores?

which actually means you multiply 1.9GHz by 1. something?

How is this processor compared to an intel processor performance wise?(for laptop use)

  1. It has two cores.

You can get a rough estimate of raw GHz by multiplying 1.9 x 2 = 3.8 GHz, but this is somewhat inflated, and it's probably closer to 2.5-3 GHz with the way computers use resources today.

    It's probably close to a dual-core 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

  2. i. yes, the TL-58 is a dual core processor indeed

ii. 1.9 ghz clock speed remains 1.9 ghz, no multiplying factor

2 cores sharing the job, so work gets done quicker

2 horses drawing the cart, cart speed does not double, but cart can carry that much extra load

iii. the TL-58 is a mid range performer. you have to be specific when you are comparing with an intel processor

however generally speaking, the intel core 2 duo family outperforms the TL-58

  3. Dual-core processors aren't actually twice as fast as a single core, but they do a much better job of handling multiple tasks smoothly.  With a single core processor, you would see a decrease in system responsiveness as you opened more programs simultaneously, perhaps ran a virus scan in the background and opened an internet browser, too.  Dual-cores can operate at slower speeds but each core can handle part of the load- one core running your anti-virus scan while the other ran an internet browser, etc.

Intel processors tend to perform 5-10% better than similarly clocked AMD processors.  Using the 10% figure, your 1.9GHz AMD Turion should be closely matched to a 1.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or possibly even a 1.73 Intel Pentium Dual-Core processor.

The newest AMD-based systems have been given a performance boost in the form the ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics processor.  Your system most likely has the ATI Radeon X1250 IGP or similar.
