Please don't just say whatever you have in your own computer. I need a little bit of reasoning to it.

  1. Currently, Intel is the way to go. The Intel CPU lines are quieter, cooler, and run faster than AMD chips do right now. Some poking around on Tom's Hardware, or Engadget can attest to this. The Intel Core 2 line is simply the best thing out there right now.

A word of warning though if you're looking at a P4, then AMD is going to be somewhat better.

  2. clock for clock, Intel processors get about 13-27% better performance.

Intels also overclock better, and run cooler.

I've been looking into building a computer for the past two weeks, and this is what I've read thus far.

If you don't beleive me, check this out...

    http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc....

It's mainly showing the differences in RAM speeds, but you can also see comparable processors of each type, and how slow the AMD's are compared to the Intels.

Intel processors also usually have more L2 cache, which makes it faster as well... There's a benchmark test on tom's hardware somewhere showing that having more L2 cache can raise performance but huge amounts.

AMD processors generally cost less, though.

But unless they cost 27% less, I'd still go for the intel ;)

This is just an overview of what research I've done for the past few weeks.

I'm going with an E7200 2.53 ghz over a 5400+ brisbane 2.8 ghz, and the 3.0 and 3.2 ghz processors, which are all within $20 of each other on Newegg.com

  3. I own Intel so no biased input here.

AMD kicks Intel's ***, the overclocking capabilities, especially the flexibility of the processors and multi-thread apps. AMD wins this one hands down, Intel sucks.

  4. i own an AMD so no biased input here

Intel just kicks *** atm, AMD haven't been able to produce anything to match Intel in terms of processing power as of yet.
