I need to know which processor better. An AMD processor or an intel one? With comparable GHz, which one is better for trying to make a video with a capture card and doing light gaming? Thank you!

  1. If itz for light gaming and stuff and watching videos get AMD cuz itz cheaper and stuff. It is pretty much the smae as intel. But intel have better speed selections and better upgrades for each model of processor. I trust intel more tho.

  2. I would go for the Intel, AMD is cheaper and should not really be used for hardcore procession, but if that's what you plan to do, then get a GOOD AMD, the older more cheap ones aren't too partial to gaming =\.

  3. That question isn't really able to be answered directly.

An intel Core 2 architecture will be faster than than same clock rate (Ghz) AMD processor.  And intel Pentium 4 at the same clock rate will be SLOWER than the AMD processor.  A core 2 quad will be about 80% faster than a Core2 duo of the same speed...

Core 2 uses less power to produce more speed, in a laptop this translates in to much cooler running, and longer battery life.  In a desktop it translates into slightly lower power bills.

AMD processors are less expensive, however, the processor is only 1 part of the entire system, so the actual cost saving isn't that great.

2 years ago, AMD ruled the speed world, today, the tables have turned and it is Intel on top, and it doesn't look like they will be displaced any time soon.

  4. If you read paragraph 2 here it should give you an idea.

The Q6600 is Intels last gen quad and the wimpiest quad Intel has yet it beats the fastest AMD made. The present Intel cpus are even faster 25% and up. If the Q6600 beats the 9950 Phenom then what is a present Intel quad thats 25% faster than the Q6600 gonna do? Then you have the Intel Nehalem cpus coming out next month that will be 20-30% faster that the cpus that are 25% faster than the cpu thats faster than the Phenom.

    Paragraph 2 of this link.

    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/int...

If youre gonna do video editing you wanna use a quad. If you're on a budget I suggest the Q6600 quad which is $45 cheaper than the 9950BE Phenom at 189.99 versus the 235 for the 9950BE(newegg).

May want to look at the Q9300 which is 269.99 and, due to its 45nm architecture and 1333FSB is over 25% faster than the Q6600. Of course thats a whole $35 more than the 9950BE but it will waste the AMD as any online cpu benchmarks will show. I know AMD lovers will dispute what I've said but it would be nice if they also provided links like I have to back their claims up. The big AMD Phenoms are nice and will do what you want to do well also but if AMD wants to run with the Intels they are gonna have to get the clock speeds on the Phenoms up. 2.6 Ghz on the flagship cpu is pathetic. AMDs really gonna be hurting after the Nehalems come out.  Seems like AMD lovers always talk about AMDs being cheaper. They're cheaper because they're slower.

  5. Personally I would go with AMD. They are better at handling a few things, video included, however video really should be handed off to your GPU, otherwise known as graphic accelerator card. THAT would be the most important part to upgrade if you are worried about video frame rates as well as keeping heat down everywhere else on the motherboard. AMD is only lacking in their market. Intel pays computer manufacturers to monopolize and only use their chips.

    Litigation with Intel

AMD has a long history of litigation with former partner and x86 creator Intel.[30][31][32]

        * In 1986 Intel broke an agreement it had with AMD to allow them to produce Intel's micro-chips for IBM; AMD filed for arbitration in 1987 and the arbitrator decided in AMD's favor in 1992. Intel disputed this, and the case ended up in the Supreme Court of California. In 1994, that court upheld the arbitrator's decision and awarded damages for breach of contract.

        * In 1990, Intel brought a copyright infringement action alleging illegal use of its 287 microcode. The case ended in 1994 with a jury finding for AMD and its right to use Intel's microcode in its microprocessors through the 486 generation.

        * In 1997, Intel filed suit against AMD and Cyrix Corp. for misuse of the term MMX. AMD and Intel settled, with AMD acknowledging MMX as a trademark owned by Intel, and with Intel granting AMD rights to market the AMD K6 MMX processor.

        * In 2005, following an investigation, the Japan Federal Trade Commission found Intel guilty on a number of violations. On June 27, 2005, AMD won an antitrust suit against Intel in Japan, and on the same day, AMD filed a broad antitrust complaint against Intel in the U.S. Federal District Court in Delaware. The complaint alleges systematic use of secret rebates, special discounts, threats, and other means used by Intel to lock AMD processors out of the global market. Since the start of this action, The Court has issued subpoenas to major computer manufacturers including Dell, Microsoft, IBM, HP, Sony, and Toshiba.

  6. if its only for light gaming then stick with an AMD
