  1. becuase the are too bad

  2. der- well why dont the south africans play american football like the US americans????

yeah its the same reason- we havent been exposed to the sport until recently.  most players dont even know what rugby is until college.  youth and high school programs here are rare and just beginning.   this is the first year for high school teams in my city.  Rugby is not on TV here- there is no national television coverage!!!!  the highlights or scores of world cup rugby werent even reported.  and iRB has done very little until recently to promote the sport in our nation.  i agree with CW.  its time to stop comparing the sports- they are completely differnt and trained for in different ways.

but if you havent noticed, in this 7's series, the Eagles won the shield in Nz and this week in sandiego lost the bowl final match to wales.  theyre gettign better thoughout the season and every year.   watch out world... we're on our way!

does the rest of the world really resent american football enough to call the USA names... c'mon!  its a sport that has become an obsession- thats all!!  if you're so worried about it and think american football is so easy- why dont you play it?  they re different sports- i love them both.  both challenging, both intense, both tough- just different!!!!

stop wasting your energy in bashing the USA and start thinking of ways to promote rugby  so we can advance the sport for everyone!

  3. American football - played by nancy boys. they need crash helmets and body armour - play a real mans game Rugby Union

  4. Have you seen that AFL thing.Ten fat guys line up facing ten other fat guys, they all bend over trying to break wind, some other guy walks up behind the row, sniffs their butts, goes hut ,f#^k,geez, blimey shite and they all fall over themselves trying to get away. They have a break for five minutes and do it all over again, and call it sport.

  5. I'll give you one thing: Your woman's team are bloody awesome,if it wasn't for us(NZ) they'd still be number one.

  6. I am so tired of people trying to say one sport is better than another.  Any S. African that played against the USA will tell you that the USA players definitely match them when it comes to athletic ability, but they simply are not as good because you have SA guys who have played their WHOLE life, while in the USA, rugby is not popular, so many people do not pick up the sport until they are in their teens (or later).  Fortunately it is growing fast.

Believe me, those pads and helmets in American Football are there for a reason.  I've played American Football, and have played rugby for almost 10 yrs now.  I would argue that rugby is safer despite the minimal protection.  Think of these 2 scenarios:

-A reciever in american football has already run 10m and is at full speed, looking UP at the air, over his shoulder for a long pass from a quarterback that is BEHIND him.  Meanwhile, a defensive player is closing in on him, straight ahead, at FULL speed and is allowed to completely LAUNCH or throw his entire body at that receiver the moment he catches the ball (even if he is still in the air with posession of the ball)

-In rugby, there is a line break, and you have a big center in the open field, running full speed.  A fullback makes a clean tackle from a diagonal run by wrapping the center's legs and bringing him to the ground.

People just need to accept that American football is a COLLISION sport with huge, smashing hits as part of the sport.  Rugby is a contact sport where a tackle is more akin to a wrestling takedown rather than a having a 220lbs+ elite athlete's body flying at you at full speed.

So please, stop trying to compare them or saying any country's "greatness" is determined by the sports they can play or do not play as well as others.

  7. NPE IRELAND ALL THE WAY!!!!!!! UP THE LEPRECÁINS!!!!! WOOOOO

  8. because they are too scared to do anything without armour

  9. the average americna player has so much padding, rugby players couldn't move fast enough... having said that the Eagles (USA amateur rugby team) team of the mid-70's were not at all bad....

  10. Rugby is seen as a pick up sport; people play it in sandlots and back fields but there are no pro teams.

Soccer is popular among the girls but nobody watches it.

To me soccer is like watching paint dry or grass grow.

American Football is so dominant, nothing can replace it.

  11. Or football like England or Brazil...

  12. We could ask why you're nation is  not better at basketball like Italy or Argentina as well as the USA.  We do play rugby it's just that the game is slowly growing in this nation.
