This is going to sound so stupid but...

Okay, if a teacher went "tell me your name and your grade", is he asking for your grade as in: A, B, C etc.

or your grade as in: 9, 10, 11

Sorry it sounds stupid. >.< Grade here just means the mark but I don't know...

  1. he's asking for 9,10,11,12

  2. School in America is often referred to as K-12, which stands for Kindergarten through 12th grade. So, to answer your question, a teacher would be asking for the year of school you are in, such as grade 9, 10, 11, or 12.

Instead of 9, 10, 11, or 12, you might hear freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior respectively.

Grades such as A, B, C, D, or F can also be referred to as scores or marks.

  3. Does he know you? ... Why does he need your lettter grade?...

I dunno But I'm guessing he means your year grade.

  4. Well, since your in High school then he would probably mean 9, 10, 11 or 12 since some classes are mixed with grades. He gives your ABC grades so he wont ask.
