Hey Everyone!! I am bringing my boyfriend to Amsterdam for his college graduation/our four year anniversary/for a life changing experience for us both/for fun! For those of you familiar with Amsterdam during Autumn - what is sufficient (but very light) packing? I appreciate any & all responses! Thanks so much!

  1. The weather is almost impossible to predict to be very honest.... the only thing you can be sure of in November is rain! - but whether is it a couple of days of light drizzle or downpours can be anyone's guess!

Last year we had a really mild November and it actually more like a typical Sept/Oct, so you could go out with a jacket (but a thick winter coat was not needed) and there were many sunny days

Basically if you want to economise on the packing, then bring layers of clothing so you can cover the 'how cold/warm will it be" issue.  Two essentials being a rainjacket (preferably with a hood) and also shoes that can deal with the rain (e.g. preferably waterproof, comfortable (lots of walking as the city is small enough and easy to navigate by foot, and hopping on/off trams!) and not slippy

November is actually a really nice time to come over.  All the hordes of tourists will have departed so you will see a different side to the country and the queues to the typical tourist attractions will be really small.

So have a lovely time :0)

  2. There's sprinkling rain that can be mixed with snow; in any way, take some warm underwear and weatherproof clothing. Hotel / hostel rooms are usually warm, as to my experience. Take some good shoes with profile soles: The pavement in "Old Amsterdam" is literally "slippery when wet". And don't miss a trip to Zandvoort by train, to the North Sea coast, to feel the salty breeze, and never mind the weather.

I'm German, and a frequent visitor to Amsterdam, mostly in summer; but I'll never forget the gentle snow flakes on my face in December and my landing on my [rear bone] on slippery pavement when I left that "coffeeshop" back in 2002.

Depending on the music style you like, I think you should prepare for your visit to Amsterdam by listening to Guns'n'Roses' "Paradise City", and then, "November Rain".

    Have fun!

  3. I went to Amsterdam from Nov.1st to Nov.12th one year.It sprinkled lightly almost every day.I took all my bad clothes...socks with holes.old underwear and clothes I did not care about. When they got dirty I threw them away.My backpack was lighter when I left than when I got there.

  4. it can be cold and rainy, but it won't snow.

have a great time. i recommend renting bicycles if you're there for more than 3 or 4 days. don't forget the van gogh museum.
