Well to date they were the most successful civilization in the history of the world and the longest lasting. The Egyptians civilization lasted over 3,500 years and no civilization has ever lasted that long to date. You would have to do a comparative analysis with other civilizations to determine what each did differently and what the others lacked. But the Egyptians created the first book of medicine and medical procedures, they were the first to do a crude form of brain surgery, recognize correlation between filth and disease and there architectural accomplishments well, speak for themselves.

They were definitely not the only civilizations to have pyramids.  Mexico has pyramids, as well as China, France, Greece, India, Rome, and Nubia...and off the coast of Japan, pyramid structures have been found underneath the sea.
