with a freebord you can go off rails and that but with a mountain board you can build dirt jumps to go off

  1. Good crosstraining boards include:

Freebord (the center wheel mimics a snowboard's ability to slide in any direction; good for bombing down steep paved hills)

Flowboard (mimics carving on pavement perfectly, but you can't go very fast or you get the wobbles)

Hammerhead (a true cross between the freebord and flowboard)

The Wave & Ripstick (2-wheeled caster boards, for tricks on pavement)

T-Board (larger 2-wheeled caster board that you can really bomb on; no great way to stop)

Carveboard (4 tires, rather than wheels; wobbly if you go more than 15 mph)

Flexboardz (like the Carveboard, but more stable at higher speeds)

Mountain Board (large tires for cruising all over the off-season mountain, doing tricks on ramps, etc.)

Dirtsurfer (not really for carving, more for bombing straight down the fall line)

This link has a short write-up comparing all of these boards, and a video of each in action:

  3. it would really depend, do you want to jib and grind or work on your grabs and spins?
