Aside from that, you should know that my efforts to tame a wild rat that I took from my cat as a juvenile, are not going very well.  The rat is afraid of me, even though I saved his life and have had him since he was a youngster.  He wants to bite me when I put my hand in the cage.  If I hold something like a cardboard tube in my hand in his cage, he retreats with threatening looks and a low-pitched squeal; maybe that's his growl.  He has such a pretty face and such soft velvety fur, but he just can't see me as anything but a huge rat-eater.  Which I assure you I am not.  But If I don't put my hand in the cage, at least he will watch me sometimes.
