  1. If it is a new laptop and has Vista on it - try Avast Anti Virus  http://www.avast.com

    It's free

Also - use CCleaner - www.ccleaner.com - this will clear all the internet c**p off the hard drive - when you have finished using the internet - just run the prog and it will clean everything.

For ad & spyware I use the free download from here - www.evonsoft.com  - again free and hunts out all the nasties that get on your system

All the above work well with Vista and no conflicts

  2. try Spyware Doctor

  3. Try Ad Aware

  4. Stay away from AVG or security suites. Use these:

    browser - http://www.opera.com/  - replace IE, it's a malware magnet junk

    antivirus - http://www.avast.com/

    antispyware - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

    ................. - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

    firewall - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

They are all the best in their category and FREE.

  5. You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

  6. There is an antiviruses free just for today

there is a code and you can activate it

    It worth trying it

    http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/hdd-obse...

You have to activate it right away because it won t let to activate it after the end of the day

    good luck

  7. you can try finding good antivirus software from  http://www.filehippo.com ok  that should help you

  8. The only reason your computer wouldn't "have" AVG is likely because you have another anti-virus program, or part of another anti-virus program, on your machine already, in which case it's not only AVG that won't work but many others as well.

Remove any partial or complete programs you may already have on the system.

The best anti-virus on the market, free or paid for, is AVG 8 Free Edition, according to my computer tech.  As for the anti-spyware, the best program is Windows Defender, also free, also on the advice of my computer tech.

    Here's the two links:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/product...

  9. Your only real chance is to find a free offer for a proper package. For example If you have Barclays online banking then you can get a subscription to the Kasperskey Internet Security suite for free.

Otherwise I would stick with trying to get AVG or Avira working properly, they are probably the best free antivirus programs.

    Cheers

  10. I'm generally skeptical of free security software, but yeah..   In the antispyware catagory, SuperAntispyware and HijackThis! are decent. Ad-Aware is ok. Other than the various free antivirus software mentioned by others here, TrendMicro PC-cillan is the only one that comes to mind.

Two free online virus scan resources are http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner .

But a few other things. One, get the actually good *gasp!* free Comodo firewall from http://www.comodo.com/ . Second, don't surf the 'net logged into your comp as an administrator. It's simply asking for a nasty infection. And lastly, if and when you get an infection even with the free a/v stuff, use free trials of good pay-for antivirus software to clean up the ol' computer again.

None of this takes the place of a good security product by a reputable company (Kaspersky, Norton, etc), but it's better than nothing.

The advice to avoid Internet Explorer is right on. Use firefox or opera; it's simply another added layer of protection.

And lastly-lastly.. use your head as far as where you surf online. No amount of security software is going to save you from yourself.

  11. Personally, I use Comodo for my Firewall (free) though I've yet to test their Anti-Virus.  Firefox 3 is the way forward (with "NoScript", IETab and AdBlock Plus the essentials to add-on)(free) and I use AVG 8 for my anti-virus.  I use Comodo's BOClean to protect from Malware (who also do Website Verification)(free).  I'd personally avoid Windows Defender having had a number of issues with it.  Instead, for occasional scanning I'd recommend Lavasoft's AdAware (free).

I've yet to get a virus on my machine in 3 years and I've even checked it with other on-line scanners.

  12. try avast it's way better than avg
