No cracks, digs or scratches, bow intact as well. I have the original ALIGATOR CASE as well. Case is worn from normal aging. Anyone know of a site for appraisals or find worth of antiques? Thanks!

insurance companies have appraisers that do these things. Contact your insurance company.

Hi. Most likely this is a copy of that violin. Balestrieri, Thomas would be quite old and quite rare. Many companies at the turn of the century - 1920's or so, copied Stradivarius and others and most are even marked with the original designer's name. I've sold a few 80 year old violins which are marked "Stradivarius" but of course were not made by him, just his name was affixed by a newer maker.

They sell well (I've sold a few over the years) but the price difference lies in the hundreds vs. the thousands.

If you really feel you have the real deal, than it would certainly be worth it to pay an appraiser to have it appraised. I'd check with a reputable antiques store to find one in your area. (lots of dishonesty in this industry, so be careful)
