Question:

ANY DOCTORS OUT THERE?? What could have caused my diarrhoea?

I've had to run to the loo about 10 times today.. and the last time it was like water. Since early this morning I've had a bad tummy ache. I havent even had any alcohol, drugs or anything like that.

Yesterday I ate porridge, 2 nectarines, tuna salad, banana, some pumpkin seeds, apple, bowl of Just Right, 3 coffees, apple juice, water.

The last 2 months I've made an effort to eat more healthily ...so I don't understand what caused it.

Is more that '5 a day' bad for you?

Also I'm very careful about clean cutlery, plates etc. By the way, the tuna was only 2 days old.

  1. I'm not a Dr, have you vomited at all? The most likely two options are either a viral stomach bug- norovirus (gastroenteritis) or you have eaten something that has given you an upset stomach. Drink plenty of clear fluids and get some rest. Stomach bug symptoms generally last no more than 24-72 hours...if symptoms don't clear up see your Dr as this could an indication of other issues.

More than '5 a day' is unlikely to bring you any health benefits, however it may make you go to the toilet more!

No, do not take Imodium if you have a stomach bug, diarrhoea is the bodies natural way of ridding the virus, if it's meant to come out then let it!

  2. Viral gastroenteritis / stomach flu suspected.

  3. chrons desease

  4. It only needs one fly to have landed on anything you have eaten to give you a tummy bug.

diarrhoea literally means a running through and that is what is going on.

If it goes on beyond a couple of days, it will put your mind at rest.

Drink as much as you can tolerate, when you start eating choose something plain and sweet like toast and honey or a very plain biscuit.

  5. Sounds like a tummy bug. Get someone to go to the shop and get you some Imodeum. Cut down on the fruit for a day or two.

  6. It could still be food poisoning, other options include viral enteritis and some form of colitis, other more sinister causes are possible but rare. Stick to clear fluids ( water squash and fizzy drinks,) and NOTHING else for 24 to 48 hours, if things have not settled by then or you develop any new symptoms, contact your doctor who will want to send away a stool sample.

  7. I've got no idea. I've had the same problem for a few days but with vomiting also. This was embarrassing because I was staying at a friend's yesterday for her birthday. Your diet sounds really healthy, healthier than mine! Just keep drinking. I think that'll solve the problem.
