ok so long story short , my brothers has a 1991 kawasaki x2 650 cc jet ski , last summer his ski got a hole in the bottom and almost sunk to the bottom of the lake! luckly he was able to hold on to it while it was completly under of water and drag it to shore . we took the spark pulgs out and turned it upside down and turned the motor over to get the water out . then we turn it back over , pour some gas in the cylinders and try to start it , we finally got it to start but it would only run for a few seconds and then just lock up suddenly . we keep on pouring gas in the cylinder and starting it and it would run longer each time but it would still lock up . then we go to start it again and the motor reved out as hard as it could run , so the first thing we do is pull the spark plug wires off and the engine keeps on running with the plug wires in our hands .it ran for about 2 min as hard as it could run while it was on shore . what would make it still run with no spark ???

  1. over heated...the piston got soooo hot it didnt need spark to burn...like a diesel engine...very bad.

  2. Hot pistons and explosive fumes. Runs full bore until fuel is spent...scarey huh? Gotta stuff a rag in the carb intake to starve air supply.

Had a Volvo Diesel inboard do it...sucked the rag right in...had to pry a plank against the flywheel to stop it.

  3. nope

  4. Weird, but possible.

Here is my theory on what happened.

The reason it was locking up is the crankcase was full of water.

Each time you start it it would pull up some water out of the crankcase.

The last time it pulled up enough to increase your compression, but not lock it up.

This caused it to diesel and run on without spark.

As it got hotter, you need less compression to automatically fire the fuel.

Finally the head gaskets went and lowered the compression enough to stop the engine.

  5. I call BS cuz there is no way to get any compression with the plugs out.  No way this happened with all the plugs out.
