No, it's an exam teachers need to take in order to get certified to teach Special Education in New York.

  1. I have an awesome book from my SPED teacher training in college called, "Children with Disabilities" by Mark L. Batshaw, M.D.  There's also an online companion to the book with resources for each chapter.  It looks at early interventions, the most common disabilities, nutrition and health concerns, genetics, family dynamics.  I'm sure you can get a wonderful book at any local univeristy book store.  If you can't find the one I listed, go to a university book store and ask for an intro book on SPED- that should cover it.

  2. I'm not sure what you mean by "student with disabilities exam."  If you could clarify your question, I might be able to give you a better answer, but I'll do my best here.

If you are referring to an assessment to determine whether or not a student has disabilities, such as those used for special education in K-12 or disabled student services at the college level, that's not something you study for.  The testing is meant to measure how you process information and the degree to which any disabilities you may have impact your ability to perform academically.  You go in as you are and answer the questions based on what you already know.

These are measures of how you learn, not so much of what you know.  Besides, there isn't a single test out there to assess students for disabilities.  There are hundreds of different standardized tests available to assess all types of disabilities.  The tests selected have to be based on the areas of suspected disability being assessed for or they aren't likely to do much good.  A decent assessment is going to involve a variety of measures, not just one test.

If you're talking, however, about a book about students who have disabilities because you're about to take a class exam on the topic of students with disabilities, it depends on the focus of the test.  College students or K-12?  The laws regarding students with disabilities or the educational impact of disabilities on students?  Clinical research or applied practices?  Or all of the above?

Based on the wording of your question, though, I'm inclined to conclude that you were looking for information about a special education or learning assistance assessment and not about a test you have coming up about students with disabilities.  I hope this helps!!!
