They are the ones that you use when securing a butt joint and they come in two parts - a post that goes into the face of one side of the joint and the other (a round nut that gets tightened with a screwdriver) that locks onto the head of the post pulling the joint in tight. There would also be a jig to guide the proper drilling of these as the two holes would have to be coordinated in length and depth.

I have scoured the aisles of the local Home Depot with little success and would like to get started with my project soon and these connectors are crucial to it.

Thanks in advance

p.s. aslo looking for a good source for gel stain for wood in DARK DARK (almost black) Brown. This is what i am trying to create: http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=118&f=3870&viewall=1 and finding the right color stain is crucial - again Home depot not all that helpful...

  1. I don't know about on line but Ikea sell them separately the last time I was in one of their stores.

Good luck with the jig, those little fellas are normally machine fabricated and the tolerances are minute.

If you are building it out of solid timber, rather than put yourself through that pain, dowel and glue your pieces together, much simpler and less chance of a disasters. It is the old fashioned way but just as strong or stronger and allows for the odd oops.

The stain is available but I don't recall the name, go to the paint store rather than one of those one stop shops, they will sort it for you.

    Good luck

  2. Honestly I wouldn't try to find stuff like that online.  I tried doing that, and it had very bad results.

If it's not too far a drive, just go to a local Ikea (if you have one) or a hardware store (preferably local ones, cuz they're more helpful and understand what you're trying to do).  Take a few photos of what you're trying to fasten, and they should be helpful.

Also, you should just call Ikea and ask.  I'm sure they have a help hotline for such things, and they can order you the parts you need.
