Charlotte area? Just need to know how the schools are and how the job market is...

I moved to Charlotte in 1996 from Northern VA.  Obviously I've decided to stay.  

Like anyplace else, the schools and job market vary by neighborhood and industry.  Charlotte has been in the news lately for having a somewhat stable housing market...at least compared to the rest of the country.  

The streets are not paved with gold however.  Sales are down, inventories are up, and prices in many neighborhoods are flat.

Our local paper recently ran an article about newcomers having unrealistic expectations about the job market here.  

Again, it depends on your industry.  IT is fairly strong here.  Banking is one of the key industries but BoA and Wachovia are struggling right now.

I am not from North Carolina, but to get a good idea call a Realtor from that area and they will give you all the info you need on schools, employment, etc.  Also checking with the Chamber of Commerce from there will help! Good Luck!

the lady i work with owns a home around there and she likes it.  i live in florida and some friends of mine just moved from florida to north carolina temporarily for work cause theres none here !
