I've read if your IP is in the same IP Block as one that used to be a spammer's IP that you will be locked out...but I can't control what IP Verizon gives my house...guess I'll have to code a WAN IP logger program to keep track of when my IP changes...

I've never had a problem until now (I think my IP changed recently) and suddenly nomater who I send mail to, I get 554 TRANSACTION FAIL from Microsoft Outlook. I haven't done any mass-mailings and I don't forward chain mail which makes me suspect the IP I was assigned. I tried turning off my FiOS modem for a day but all I accomplished was crashing the FiOS TV tuner boxes until I reconnected the modem...

Any suggestions welcome!

  1. 554 usually means the message was blocked because it contained a "banned" word.

As to why all of the sudden it won;t let you do anything..

    well

is it possible that your user name contains a keyword. Seems unlikely. Do you notice a common thread when sending?

Can you send the following message?

    "Hello, This is a test."

Can't imagine any of those words are banned.

Are you trying to send an attachment? Maybe a text file?

I dunno. The banned list is up to your ISP.

This probably does not have anything to do with your IP address.

  2. AOL have a very good spam policy. If one of their clients clicks the spam button against any email server, that server domain is permanently blacklisted. A customer of mine had dealings with other companies in the same business, as well as being rivals. They emailed information to one of these who had AOL accounts. This person clicked spam (despite requesting the information) and 12 hours of telephone calls to USA from the UK later, and now 5 years further down the line they can NOT send to AOL at all. I now totally refuse to service or support ANY machine which uses any part of AOL. They have taken the lazy way to security, since the time when they were blacklisted 5 times in one year.
