Question:

AP Biology Textbook?

I wanted to buy the Cambell Biology 6th edition textbook instead of the 7th edition (which is the one I will be using in school) because it is cheaper. I need it for Ap Biology because I like to highlight in my textbooks, but what I need to know is whether or not they are the same when it comes to the content. I need for it to be word for word the same, but the charts and pictures don't necessarily have to be the same.

  1. Well last year I used the 6th edition from Amazon. And I could highlgiht what I wanted to.

In terms of content, of course the 7th has more. Also, I think that you can get the seventh at a cheap price because the 8th edition is out.

  2. The 8th edition should be available sometime very soon.  I teach AP Biology and have an advanced copy of the 8th.  You should try Amazon or Half Price Books to see if they have any used copies.  At my school we are still using the 6th edition until the state adopts the new version of the book.  But your best bet is to wait and talk with your teacher to see what he/she would suggest for you.  If you are looking for extra study guides to use try the Barron's study guide.

  3. In my experience, college textbook changes in editions are very often just page number changes with very few changes in the actual content.

In my Biology class I took this summer, Half of the people were using the current textbook from a different publisher, and the other half were using Campbell's version.

My teacher said that was fine. The best bet would be to ask your teacher what the changes are. They should be familiar with the text enough to let you now if you can get by with the older version.
