What's the difference?

I took biology last year (in my freshmen year, and OMGSH. my grade was terrible....)

I am taking Chemistry this year. (I'm a sophomore.) And ... I don't know, it's the beginning of the year.. so I'm not sure I'll get that good of a grade. But I'm trying to keep an open mind.

So maybe from you guyss experiences or something?

Which one's "tougher"?

AP CHEM or AP BIO ?

I heard AP chem is a lot of MATH

and AP bio is a lot of MEMORIZING

(and of course, i know ap chem has a lot of memorizing.. but still this is all i know so far)

Any suggestions?

Which one should I take in my junior year?

I know this is sort of a broad question, but yea..

  1. As a junior last year I took AP Chemistry and it turned into a complete nightmare. For me, I was much too overwhelmed with my course load and cared much less for AP Chemistry than I did for my other classes. The class was the most difficult I have ever taken in high school. Concepts, let alone the numerous amount of math involved, were nearly impossible for me to grasp. Class averages on tests resulted in an average of 60%. Come the day of the actual AP Chemistry exam, I nearly broke down and cried at my inability to answer the multiple choice and free response questions.

This, however, is a completely biased opinion. I am more of a literature/history/foreign language-based student. Science combined with mathematics, therefore, proved no friend of mine. A handful of students did succeed in receiving an 'A', though, but through much dedication and time spent in studying and possessing a naturally ability to grasp the material relating to math.

I'll tell you now, though, chemistry my sophomore year was nothing compared to AP Chemistry. I found Chem 1 Honors extremely easy and an 'A' was attainable. The following year, as I've mentioned, AP Chemistry hit me like a ton of bricks (so to speak) and I did not perform as well as I had originally hoped to.

So my advice is: if you truly enjoy and do well in mathematics, take a chance on AP Chemistry, assuming that you'll have a teacher adequate enough to prepare you. It's no easy course based on my experience.

  2. unless your planning to study in the field of medicine

stay away from that ****, lol

take physics if avalible much more intresting in my opinion

  3. For the most part, AP Chem is harder; I actually think Bio is one of the easier AP tests. Even though Bio seems very broad, it does test you on the more obvious topics, whereas Chem is still broad at times, yet the questions get be more 'picky' than bio's. It all has to do with your preference of course...but since you're asking us, I'd personally say retake bio-most people I know scored higher in bio than chem.

    Hope this helps.

  4. I also took AP bio and i got a 5. its really easy, but this year i am taking chemistry hon and its really hard.and remember i am taking honors but u r taking AP so it will be a lot harder for you. if you got a bad grade on Ap bio, then i will suggest you to drop out. because this is an elective class this is not necessary for ur graduation. so u can take an easy elective class instead.

  5. Take AP BIO
