I will be taking AP Chemistry in my Junior year in high school, do you think I should buy a Barron's Review Book and study for it during the summer?

  1. in my opinion, no.

if you are gong to take the class, the class should prepare you for the ap exam. enjoy your summer and don't worry about ap until at least school starts. plus, the ap chem exam is the easiest of all the exams i took. not that much study is needed.

also, i think Barron's review book has waaaaaayyyyyyyyy too much information. and it's sometimes really confusing. use Princeton Review. it has a more concised summary, and the practice problems are more similar to the ones on ap exam.

  2. depends on how comfortable you feel with chemistry.

If you haven't taken chemistry before, you might feel overwhelmed by the information in the review book. Sometimes it's nice to get a leg up on the process, but I always feel I get more out of review books after I learn the information (that's why they're called REVIEW books)

If you have taken chemistry before, it wouldn't hurt to take a brief glance at a review book just so you're familiar with the format of the book when you really are reviewing for the AP exam. The class should take care of most of the necessary studying though.
