AP English Literature Question?

Is it an interesting class? I can't decide between it and AP US HIstory. How much work is involved and what kinds of things do you do at school and home?

  1. I teach AP English Lit and I can honestly say that it is quite a bit of work--but since you are considering AP classes anyway, you might as well choose English.  You read at home and discuss in class (mainly literary analysis).

    I hope you enjoy it!

  2. It really depends on your school.  At mine, both were time consuming, but AP Lit was much easier than AP US History.  I always heard that, anyway.  And apparently the AP US History test is super hard to pass.

I would do whichever one interests you more in general.  For me that was English so I took that one, but I didn't take the AP test since I'd passed AP Language.

In my Lit class we had to do several book reports and we read a bunch of stories in class (sometimes had to read for class before class and take quizzes on it) then we did like 3 AP practice exams.  Those sucked.  I think there was a lot of reading for APUSH, but honestly it just depends on your school.  I think either way you'll be doing lots of AP practice tests and reading, more than any other class.  If you're interested in it though it will help.

  3. Lots of work involved, it's basically a college course.

  4. English, for sure! There's not too much work involved. Mostly, you just read stories at home, and then discuss them in class. You'll write a few papers too. Nothing too hard.
