Next year I will be taking AP Biology, Physics, Trig., Dual Enrollment Spanish, Dual En. US History, Dual Enrollment Anatomy and Physiology and English/AP English Literature.

Should I take AP English Literature or just the regular English 11 class?

If you've taken AP Lit, please describe the class, work, homework, studying, test, essays and how hard is it to have an A in the class. Thanks

  1. I took 6 AP classes my senior year, and AP Lit was one of the easiest. Like someone said before me, it totally depends on your school and your teacher. There is no "standard" for how the class is taught. That's why there's an AP test... to measure everyone up realistically.

If you're shooting for better colleges, then please take the AP.

The class was very discussion-centered. I go to a somewhat-selective private high school, so the class size was small. It was very focused on articulating what the authors were trying to reveal through their language and structure. I am one of those kids who doesn't study too much, so it could be different for you. The tests were basically in-class essays... compare/contrast two previous books, analyze the statements, etc. The essays were somewhat more difficult because the level of the class was very high. It takes a lot of work to come up with an original idea for your research project. Standing out from your peers (which I aimed to do) was more difficult than the course work itself.

The books you read will vary. Some of them will be enjoyable, while others will be terribly boring. If you enjoy reading in general, this shouldn't be a problem.

I got an A in the class (95%) with moderate work and effort put in. Every person's class is different, but I would highly recommend you take it if you have done well in English classes in the past.

  2. If you want more info on what's involved in a class, check out some of the tests you'll have to take and see if you're up for them.  This site has both MC and Free Response.

  3. every school is different.

i was in ap english lit. and it wasn't so bad.

each week wed have one in class essay and one take home essay.

there were no more easy vocab/grammar homeworks/quizzes.

then we had one 10-page research paper on our favorite author and 3 of their books and a creative writing project as our final exam grade. i'd suggest going for it. i had the lowest grade in my class, an 86 and i still didn't regret it!

  4. if ur not a senior...then no....u seem all booked up. u have 12 grade to do AP LIt....dont over work urself
