does anyone know how to find the average velocity and average speed on a position x time graph??

  1. Take the final position and subtract the initial position.  Divide by time.  That will be the average speed.  Tack on the direction (probably a plus or minus) and you'll have the average velocity.

    Note that this is basically a slope.  The slope of a position-time curve is the velocity.


  2. Instantaneous velocity is the slope of the line at the given point in time in a position vs. time graph.

    Average velocity is found by subtracting the initial position from the final postion then dividing by time.

    Average speed is distance over time so you find the total overall distance that is travelled then dividing by time.
