Question:

AP world history as a junior?

Okay so im going to be a junior in high school, ive never taken any AP or honors classes before, but i did really well in my regular U.S. history class last year (and my teacher said that she thought id be able to handle it)

I really want to take an AP class because it will look good on my transcript, BUT im afraid that if i take it and fail, it will mess up on GPA.

I also really need to get a job this year, so im probably not going to have a lot of free time after school (to get in long hours of homework)

what should i do? would i be able to handle this class? is there a lot of homework? im willing to be committed, but i dont know if that will be enough...

  1. AP world history is really not that hard but there is a lot of work that needs to be done (if i remember correctly we have to do notes for the first two chapters as our homework for the FIRST DAY). From my experience what you need is good essay writing skills as well as memorizing a whole bunch of facts. I find that going to online sources HELPS a lot as well as getting other AP world history books to read.

Just remember it is just a class and if you feel overwhelmed with the work just keep at it, most AP teachers are really nice too so talk to them if you have problems in class. Plus since it is an AP class remember that your grade is weighed so getting a "C" is actually a "B".

  2. AP history classes are really hard. My friends in AP US History pulled all-nighters often and basically had the most academically stressful year of their life. They didn't have homework, they just had a list of hundreds of terms (dates, people, events, etc.) they had to memorize each week.

If you're not used to the AP or Honors level course load, it might be really tough, but if you're up to the challenge, then go for it. :)

  3. ok i took apus as a junior... trust me it's really easy!

it won't mess up your GPA at all!

it's a looot of info, but im trusting you will get through it. it's a very easy class.

  4. It's work...Lot of reading...lot of writing...Tests and exams...But will depend on your instructor...our grades are "weighted" basically B bumps  up to A... C to B...D well...a D is a D and F still fails you...While it take more dedication...it set you up early for college classes...What you must decide is...What is important to you...nothing in life is easy...and you must work for everything...might as learn now...It's you education...It's your future...Good Luck

  5. Im going to be ajunior too and I signed up for APUSH  (AP U.S. History)also! Well it depends on your school , my school's AP us history course is suppose to be the most difficult class in the whole school..so yeah...

First, ask around other students and get their opinions and then you can get a general idea of how hard your schools course is.

As long as you are a hardworker and always do your homework even though you were never in any honors classes i think you should do fine.

Also, when you are in an AP class colleges add .5 GPA and they rather see a student taking rigourus courses then a student who got all A's but took regular/easy courses..

I dont know about you, but for AP history i got a very thick packet and i have to read 8chapters out of the textbook for summer homework..

There will be a lot of work, but i heard from people its worth it because you learn so much and yeah for college it will make a difference probably even help you scholoarships

With the job thing i also understand...cause i need one too and if i do sports then...yeah but people told me they were able to do it sooooo

Time management is important and getting your priorities straight. If the class gets hard, study with friends you meet in your AP class i think that will help, especially studying with someone who is patient and gets things easily

In the end, i think you should go for it lol You can do it!!!

  6. You might as well take your first AP class, there's always a first time, and the more you take you'll get used to the workload

as long as you are used to doing all of your homework, lots of it, since the History AP's usually give the most work, but don't require you to think as much as a science class might

    - taking Gov/Econ AP, Physics AP, Music Theory AP, and Calculus AP next year

  7. AP history is very vigourous, lots of reading and lots of writing.  However let me tell you that if you take AP history, then take and pass (with a 4 or better) the AP history test you will most likely have credits for college.  I paid 8 dollars for the AP history test and got waived a $5000 class in college.

It's a lot of work though let me tell ya, those DBQ's (document based questions) are no fun.  *cries in a corner*

  8. I did AP US history in my Junior year and I had a an after school job. You can do it. You will also be better prepared for college for it. Your applications will also show that you can manage it, fantastic.

Your teacher has confidence in you, have confidence in yourself.
