Question:

AQA Archaeology, Ancient Egypt?

I'm studying at home for the Archaeology AS exam & have chosen Ancient Egypt for module 3.

I know about 30 gods & 50 symbols & the layout of temples but I looked though some past papers & theres so much I still dont know but I have no idea how much I need to know.

Do I need to know all the kings & what their tombs looked like? Coz that seems like seriously loads to learn so I really hope I dont.

Anyone have any idea what I need to know? Or any idea of whats most important about/from Ancient Egypt?

  1. I presume you refer to the module on to religion and ritual from the the Pre-dynastic period to the New Kingdom?  Yes, there are a lot of kings and I cannot believe that you would be expected to know them all by heart!

I assume that you have looked at page 21 in the full specification on

    http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/pdf/AQA-5011-...

It strikes me that the examiners are more interested in the workings of religion and ritual rather than knowledge of all the kings and their tombs (many of which probably have not even been found yet).  Unfortunately there seems to be no specific text book for this course but personally I would advise you to concentrate on the main people (kings or no) for whom there is archaeological evidence in the context of the subject criteria.

Exam boards are not very helpful when it comes to recommending texts for anything pre-18th century!

    Best of luck
