Question:

AQHA Horse Registration Problem?

We purchased my Appendix QH, Sundance and he wasn't registered, but he has a great tempermant, and is a great all around show horse. We made it to state fair and have won many high point trophies. We are workin to get him registered. His dad (Mr. Texas Bay) was registered and we have his papers. We know Sundance's life story. His mom died 3 days after he was born. We know her story, but she wasn't registered. Is there anyway we can register him even though his mom wasnt registered? Would they make an exception because of his showing abilities? We could pay extra. Is there anyway? He is amazing. I even hear people talking about us and how beautiful we looked after my classes. Is there any way?

  1. yea all you gotta do is submit bloodwork and have his family histroy registered or not  itll be expensive call and ask tghem

  2. First of all, you didn't state your horse's age.  Secondly, if you don't know who had the dam's papers, then without them, you can't even think about having a chance to register him.  IF his breeder had his dam's papers even after his dam died, there'd be a chance, but without those papers, you're at a dead end.

I had a TB colt that I NEVER sent off his papers because I had no plans on racing him, he was going to get gelded and I NEVER planned on selling him.

    Unfortunately there are QH shows...

  3. How old is this horse?

The rules used to be and may still be that if a horse isn't registered by age 3, he cannot be registered.  I had a WONDERFUL gelding that didn't get registered (due to procrastination) and when we tried at over 3 he could not be registered.

The registration also depends on what breed his mother was and whether her papers are available.  You see, I have a buckskin filly who's sire is a registered Foundation Quarter Horse.  the mother is a Jockey-club registered TB mare with no QH in her.  In order to register my foal, I was required to send pictures, pay a fee and write a letter asking for the mare to be registered as a TB able to produce appendix babies.  After their approval, I'll be able to register the foal.

However, there are strict regulations on the sire and dam - for example, you can't take a POA pony or a warmblood and set it up as enabling foaling of a Appendix QH - the Appendix status is really reserved for TB lines - as it was thought addition of TB blood would increase performance.

I am going to bet money you cannot register Sundance - but I'm also gonna bet you can still have LOTS of fun with him at other shows rather than breed shows.

Really, the value in registration is selling price and showing at breed shows.  A registered stallion or mare is more likely to foal a register-able foal.  A registered gelding is worth nothing in the breeding barn - his value in being registered is the ability to show at breed sanctioned shows, further proving his lineage through exceptional performance and the ability to show a bloodline to prospective buyers who know enough about bloodlines to make decisions based on them.

If he's a great guy, a great show horse and you don't intend to sell, the registration isn't that great a value - just show on all other circuits than breed circuits and have fun.

  4. No can do; all must be registered, sire, dam, and their extended families.

  5. Why do you want to register him? I don't see the value in registering a gelding.  You can't register a horse in AQHA unless both parents are registered, that is the whole purpose of the registry, so that you can prove your horses lineage.  You can't breed him.  Unless you want to show him in AQHA shows so that his sire or dam can have bragging rights I just don't get it.

  6. Both parents must be registered in order to register the off-spring. In order to be Appendix registered, one parent  would need to have TB papers.  So I don't believe there is any way to register him if his dam wasn't registered.

Are you wanting to paper him in order to show in AQHA breed shows?
