  1. try going on non carpent floor with your skates ad skate gaurds on keeep practicing!!!!!!!! you will get it eventuallly andd its alot slipperyer on the icee

    much lovee

    jackieee

  2. well its kinda different  when your on the ice and on the floor.

Its definetly much easier on the floor because your not moving and your just standing still and forcing yourself to get up in the air. While when your on the ice your really moving and really gliding. Try asking your coach for information. They know your weaknesses and your strengths. And there the ones who watch you everyday (or every other day). Although it may be easier to jump off ice its much harder on ice. But jumping off ice is good training and teaches you the correct technique. Anyway good luck.

hope you get your jumps down...

  3. You are probably nervous and don't want to put all of your strenght into a jump.

  4. Its So Much Easier to do anything off ice becasue you dont have the fear facto of falling

Are You Wearign Your skates off ice to practise ?

If not thast whyyuo cant do it

1)becasue your using a flat foot and

    2)your not gliding your walking

I Bought the shoes that have roller blades in them they really really help off ice practise especially spirals

and the spinner-an  off ice traning devide to practise ur spins for basic balaance and agility and the harness u can attach to your leg and hand so u can master '' I ''spins

    x*x

  5. you can't chicken out....anyways you need to not be afraid you just do it like that.. because you need to work on it and practice. for loop you don't curve untill you jump.... for flip u make a big curve and don't put your pick in so hard! for lutz don't curve so much around the corner hope this helps!

  6. ur prob unconsiously scared of falling...

  7. It is alot herder to do jumps off ice than on ice for 2 reasons:1.Your blades are thinner than regular shoes.2.The ice is really slippery.I can't do any jumps yet either so don't feel bad.It helps if you take dancing classes before you start to figure skate.

  8. It's harder to do on the ice because 1) you have the edges and toepicks 2) Your skate is higher in the back, so you foot is like in high heels.

  9. Well, when you're on the ice, you're constantly moving/gliding when you do your jump entrances . . . on the ground you're sort of stepping the moves, not really having to deal with the same momentum as you would on the ice.

For example, when you do 3 turns or crossovers on the ice, you're gliding each edge and the natural force of the rotation helps you in the entrance of a particular jump.  It takes timing to use this "force" to work for your jumps.  Off the ice it's not really a balancing act for the most part as you're on the wide base of your shoe/foot, and you create your own momentum to get around the jump.  The timing isn't as crucial as it is on the ice.

Toe jumps are different off ice as well as you're not really picking on the ground and it's not really "vaulting" as you should be doing on the ice.  On the ice, when you pick back, the take off leg kind of catches up the the pick foot and then you jump up - you use both legs to vault up - and the only way to truly achieve that is through "gliding".  On the ground it tends to be a "hop-off" the picking foot.

On the ice, you can see your tracings on the ice to see how you are jumping (from the entrances edges / toe pick mark of your jump / landing).  Off ice you obviously can't tell . . . even though you may be getting the correct revolutions in the air, it's possible your foot is not in the correct position it's supposed to be in the entrance or landing.  A little twist here or there won't matter off the ice . . . but it will matter on the ice.

And so, it's important that if you learn how to do off ice jumping properly . . . off ice exercises don't necessarily copy the exact action a skating move  . . . they are exercises designed to help with / strenghten what you do on the ice.  You don't want to practice too much off ice jumps incorrectly that the muscle memory affects your jumps on the ice.  And do be careful with your ankles and knees off the ice as it easily twists and torks more than on the ice!

Other factors:  you have a heel on your skates . . . street shoes and bare feet are flat on the ground . . . that does make a difference for your other leg muscles.  Also it's easier to do things on the ground because the fear factor isn't there as it is on the ice.

I think you should really get the hang of loop ON the ice before attempting flip or lutz.  With the understanding of the loop (especially in the air), flip and lutz will come in time - at least a lot faster than if you don't have a loop.  Jumps are learned in a specific order for a reason - take each step one at a time.

Try this entrance on loop:  Do a foward inside 3 turn (L if you are lefty, R if you are a righty).  When you turn, immediately put that free foot in front.  Hold that back outside edge as long as you can hold it as you bend down to jump (this hold is something you don't get the feeling of off the ice).  Once you feel you can't hold it any longer, do a hop.  Some people can get a full loop off the bat like this, some have a cheated loop but still "get" the feeling of loop.  Don't forget to use your arms to help you jump up . . . bring them in as if you're scooping yoursef up as you jump.

    Hope that helps!!

  10. Ok,

first of all, the fact that you can do all that off ice is great because it will help with the orginization of your body for on ice. The common sense part is that when you do it off ice your in shoes on solid land  its easier and naturally one would think it might be a little harder to do the same on a sheet of ice with a high heel connected to e steak knife! (nice analysis is it not :)

ANywho, when you do your loop, (from backwards crossovers) make sure that when you set, you feel like you are sitting. Hold your arms in a rounded L posision kinda. Then use the power from your back arms to pull not swing the power into you. Jump from the thigh not the arms though. Make sure, though the arm helps, that most of the power is generated from your thigh. Feel like its popping up and the jump will turn itself.

Almost forgot. The flip. Make sure that each movement of it has a solid, controlled, timed step. Hold each for equal time. Pick with the top toe pick and reach your leg back. When you jump, pull the jump to you (pull your body to the toe pick) and feel your self drag back to it and then explode.

The lutz is quite easy once you get your flip. Same as what I said before, just make sure you really lean out and hold that outside edge.

Try watching any professional skaters on TV or youtube. Next time skating is on TV, watch specifically for those little details, take notes, and bring them on the ice with you so you remember and can apply it. Trust me, the little things help.

You can do it, good luck!
