Now here's a hypothetical question. Select two teams - one of AFL & one of NRL (22 players per side).

Play the 1st quarter ARL rules; the 2nd AFL; the 3rd ARL & the 4th quarter...................don't bother, I don't think there would be any AFL players fit enough to front for that final quarter.

They'd have the stuffing knocked out of them.

I lnow it will never take place as the game would be too one sided!

  1. Clearly the AFL would win.

For one they're heaps fitter than rugby blokes.

They cop their fair share of big hits in AFL, maybe not as much as NRL but wouldn't make that much of a difference.

AFL players skills are so much better its not even funny.

And obviously the scoring system of AFL would leave the result inevitable.

A better question would be whether AFL would beat NRL at a full game of rugby.

  2. I saw some interesting facts on Wikipedia.

In 1898 1899 the best Player in US College Football & a Hall of Famer was an ex Aussie Rules Player from CBC StKilda & the NRL Player Dally whats his name may have gained his skills from playing Aussie Rules in the South Melbourne area.

What do you get when you play US Football with out a helmet?

    A Rugby League Player.

  3. ARL.

I don't believe the AFL would be actually game to tackle the NRL. I'mnserious when I say that.

  4. The rugby team would beat the Aussie Rules footballers.

That's if they were on an even par & selected from ARL & NRLteams.

I don't think it would be a contest at all. Too different to be any good.

It woyuld be like the army versus the boy scouts.

  5. ARL for sure.

To be fair AFL players bodies aren't attuned to copping tackles as dished out in ARL. There would be too many serious injuries to AFL players for the game to be allowed to continue.

Imagine some of the AFL players fronting up to a rugby union scrum? They would be pushed across the try line every time.

As the old saying goes " Every man to his own!

  6. i think it would be alot closer than people seem to think, they are all professional athletes both running for the same amount of time, sure afl will have quite a bit more endurance fintness but because of the different combinations of the nrl side and the speed and fitness of the backs the ARL could give afl a challange in AFL and dominate in the ARL there for creating an equal match i would say scores-

ARL- (assuming NZ could beat the AFL side) 90

    AFL- 80

  7. Why not AFL rules in da 1st q, then every one would go home because the game would stop, the ARL boyz would be too tired to play another quarter mans, lol. that's funys.

    you funys mans, crazy mans.

  8. AFL.

And I'd have something to say to to the ARL players at 3/4 time. We'd then bolt in!

  9. ARL would win in  a cake walk.

Some say the AFL players are fitter. You can run for some of the time but you can't hide. The ARL boys would eventually get them & they'd only need to crunch them once.

And I'm an AFL supporter but one has totyell the truth. Imagine Willie Mason tackling Aaron Sandilands??? Goodbye Aaron!

  10. no players would ever finish.

The AFL players would get brused up to much and at the same time, the Rugby League players wont keep up with the pace of AFL.

Rugby League is more about strength and brutality, AFL is more of a running, strtegic and in some ways a more athletic game.

Rugby League is players in the line up and down, up and down the field when AFL players need to make leads, run the whole way and doge 3,4 different players coming from ALL angles.

no one would win, they would all be dead!

  11. Seem to recall them putting GPS tracking on some players in the AFL preseason... and they covered more klms during the game than other codes. We've seen ARL players get marking coaching for taking 'high balls' and AFL players taught tackling... maybe it would be closer than you think.

  12. It would depend how many NRL players got sinbinned in the first Q.

  13. thats stupid. AFL would win definetly.

  14. It's a completely pointless question, because you are clearly biased for Rugby League. First quarter rugby rules of course ARL would win, becuase rugby players are all naturally larger. It's a characteristic of the sport. On the other hand, if it was AFL rules for the first quarter, the AFL players would kick so many goals that even if the ARL players knocked the stuffing out of every one of the AFL players they couldn't catch up.

Rugby League is a strength-based sport, while Aussie Rules is based much more on endurance. They're two different things, and shouldn't be put together like that. Try a cross-country race between Rugby players and AFL players. Who would win then?

  15. The whole AFL team would be in hopsital after the 2nd quatar lol thats because League is 4 men and AFL is for little g*y fairy boys

  16. Why do you NRL wankers come in the AFL section and stir **** all the time?

How many times does an AFL section regular go into NRL and stir ****.

Anyway AFL will win easily because they're fitter and score much much more than the NRL

  17. After the first 5 minutes of play the AFL team would be a brocken, sorry mess!

AFL would need to be played in the first quarter to give them a chance, and a reason to show up for the 2nd quarter. Offcourse they would kick goals all over the park and only ARL Centres , Wingers and Fullbacks could keep up, but once one of them run into a Second Rower, they would be in hospital.

  18. That's the most oil and water question I have seen.

    Dark Sec

How could Franklin even kick the ball when he was ironed out by Sonny Bill Williams?  He'd need a cuddle from his Mother and a lollipop to make it better.  Even Preston Campbell could hammer most of the AFL players.  They can't tackle, or be tackled.  (Except for a couple of retired players, Voss & Matthews)

  19. Clearly the AFL would win you idiot!!!

Think about it... sometimes not even 40 points are scored in a NRL match and the AFL would kick 40 points in one quarter of AFL footy..

    it would go...

    NRL 18 AFL 2 (after 1 ARL qtr, NRL 18 - 2 AFL)

    NRL 25 AFL 52 (after 1 ARL + 1 AFL qtr each; NRL 1.1.7 - 8.2.50)

    NRL 47 AFL 52 (after 2 ARL + 1 AFL; NRL 22 - 0 AFL)

NRL 62 AFL 95 (full time; NRL 2.3.15 - 6.7.43 AFL (thanks to some innacurate kicking from buddy franklin!!))

Besides, even if there was some kind of hybrid aussie rules-rugby game made... the AFL players would still win no doubt!

Dropkick - Despite what everyone is saying.. I'd say the AFL players could still get through the match and win... no doubt there'd be sore after the match.. maybe injured.

AFL players are stronger than you think.
