I want to switch to the MARINES.

I only have ged, I scored 70 on asvab.

I have a tattoo on forearm.

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES?

I cant even talk to a recruiter until I separate from ARMY dep, but don't want to separate until I KNOW that I can get in.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

  1. OK - so this is being slightly "sneaky" but... get the number of the Marine recruiter and call and ask him about the tattoo (I know for sure that a GED will get you in though you may want to complete 15 college credits so you have more MOS options and a 70 is fine on the ASVAB).

If he says the tattoo is fine (if you got into the Army then it definitely isn't obscene or anything) then write a letter to the Army recruiting CO stating that you no longer wish to be in the DEP - you do not need to state your reasons.

After that - go meet with the Marine recruiter in person and get things worked out.

    Good luck!

  2. My best advice is seperate completely until the Army has undergone a vast change.  If you are infantry, which I assume you are with a 70 ASVAB, you will be working 12-16 hour days on average when not deployed, (including field training, where you can stay out for weeks at a time).  As for the Marines, I've heard it is better, but not by much.  Don't join.  Let the government know you want to serve, but don't wish to lose your self as an individual to serve your country, which prides itself on individuality.  Write a letter to your congressmen telling him that.
