how long are you usually at your first duty station and duty stations after that?

  1. My stateside assignments lasted, on average, about 2 years each. I was stationed in Belgium for 6 years.........


  2. Depends. We've been stationed here for 2 1/2 years and my husband is going to Iraq for 12 months which means 3 1/2 years and who knows how long we'll stay when he gets back. I know people that we're here for a year and some as long as 8 years.

  3. Lisab is right. Also, they have these new "Life Cycle Units" that they are implementing. This means you will be stationed at a location for 7 years.  

  4. 2 to 3 years give or take.  Some overseas assignments like Korea are one year (unless you have orders to bring family).

    You can always request an assignment from your branch manager but generally you will be locked in for at least 1 year.
