ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC DISPLAY OF DISCIPLINE?

icame from a country where physical punishment is allowed. i gave few spanking to my 13 years old daughter for not willing to do her homework. i was arrested and summoned to family court because my daughter to take revenge on me called the police and claimed that i sexually abused her, which is not true. In court i was found not guilty. This incident happened forty years ago.

I had planned currently to have my citizenship, when I go to the police to get my certificate of good behavior it has a criminal check -up on it. i am so upset about it because I did not do her any harm except wiping her for willing to do her home works. Should I still get my citizenship with this criminal check mark. i don't think it is fair. i was arrested only once for false accusation and I have had good behavior for the past thirty six years that i have been living in America. i note that currently my daughter is forty years old and still feel sorry for having lying on me. should i continue the process doing my citizenship or should i give it up?

  1. Well, all the record will show is that you were charged but the charge was dismissed.

That's not supposed to count as criminal activity, so you should be Okay.

  2. Go for it!  If necessary, have your daughter certify your innocence.  Good luck!

  3. You are in luck:

According to this you have to be crime free for only 5 years. Findlaw is a reliable website.

  4. Surely that would not still be on record.  You were found not guilty.  I would go ahead with the process, You deserve to be a citizen of the United States of America.  God Bless You.
