The Ligue 2 giants are keeping a close eye on the contractual situation of the Lazio star who wants to leave the Italian capital this summer
AS Monaco are certainly not finished with their transfer market activity. The club from Principality is keen on making a strong squad for the current campaign by the end of which they want to win promotion back to Ligue 1 football.
Reports in French media now claim that the Monegasque club has now turned its attention towards French defender, Modibo Diakite. The 25-year-old is currently under contract at Italian Serie A side, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775. Although his contract expires in 2013, the native
of Bourg-la-Reine has stubbornly refused to extend his contract and has declared his desire to leave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 this summer at a reduced price.
Although Lazio are unwilling to let go of such an important player, the Roman club’s management knows that they could lose the player for free next summer. Thus, the club’s president, Claudio Lotito is doing everything he can in order to sell the player
this summer as offers keep on coming.
Ligue 1 side, LOSC Lille are also keen on expanding their defensive sector which consists of only Marko Basa, Aurelien Chedjou and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Rozenhal and could fight with Monaco for Diakite’s signature.
Monaco coach, Claudio Ranieri is keen on securing the Frenchman’s signature and reports in SportMediaset claim that the Italian tactician has personally spoken to Diakite regarding a move to Stade Louis II.
The Biancocelesti have already rejected offers from Juventus, AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 and Torino for Diakite’s services as the club does not feel that the offers match the player’s fair market value.
Given their new financial power, AS Monaco will certainly have no trouble meeting Lazio’s requirements for Diakite. However, it still remains to be seen if the player would be up for a challenge in Ligue 2.
Diakite signed for Lazio in the summer of 2006 from Pescara. Since his arrival at the Stadio Olimpico, the 25-year-old has made 65 appearances for
La prima squadra della capitale.
Although the Roman club is not willing to let go of Diakite, a good offer from Monaco would quickly change the club’s hierarchy’s minds.
